Arizona State’s Shawn Phillips Jr. plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal
Shawn Phillips has spent the last two seasons in Tempe. Now, for the second time in his career, he’ll be entering his name into the portal, On3’s Joe Tipton confirms. Phillips (4.3 ppg. (55.5% FG), 3.7 rebounds) plans to enter his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned.
Phillips played the past two years for Arizona State. While with the Sun Devils, Phillips posted 5.4 points (56.5% FG), 4.3 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game in 54 appearances. That includes a career-best season this past year with statistics of 5.4 points (57.5% FG), 5.2 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks in 30 games played, which had him second on the team in blocks and third in rebounding.
That’s after Phillips spent his freshman year at LSU. In 20 games as a Tiger, Phillips put up 1.4 points (45.5% FG) and 2.2 rebounds per game.
Phillips, a Dayton, Ohio native, played his high school basketball at Dream City Christian in Glendale, Arizona. He was the No. 114 overall recruit there as a three-star prospect in the 2022 cycle. He was also rated as the No. 15 C and a Top 10 player out of Arizona. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. That made him the third-rated out of a four-signee class for Louisiana State that was in the Top 25 of On3’s 2022 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
Phillips is now the latest transfer during this new portal cycle from ASU. The Sun Devils have already lost three others in Joson Sanon, Brandon Gardner, and Brycen Long with Sanon having already committed elsewhere, the day after his official entry, to St. John’s.
Phillips, a seven-footer, will be able to play at a lot of places with his size and experience to go with his past pedigree. It’s now a question of where that’ll be once he’s officially transferring with his name in the portal.
