Arizona State transfer QB Jaden Rashada set to visit SEC school
Arizona State quarterback Jaden Rashada officially entered the transfer portal Friday afternoon.
The former top-100 recruit immediately becomes the top quarterback available and adds some intrigue to the portal. As On3 reported on Thursday night, Georgia is the school to watch to land the former four-star who has four years of eligibility remaining and can play immediately.
Rashada missed most of this spring with a non-football thumb injury. He returned earlier this week to practice and saw some 11-on-11 time. The quarterback was thrown right into the mix in 2023 as a true freshman, starting the first two games of the season. In three games, he completed 53.7 percent of his passes while throwing for 485 yards and four touchdowns. He was 1-2 in three starts.
Multiple sources now tell On3 that Jaden Rashada will visit Georgia on Monday afternoon. The Bulldogs have been circled as the favorite from the start. He has familiarity with the coaching staff from his high school recruitment, specifically with Brandon Streeter who was previously the offensive coordinator at Clemson.
Georgia entered the 15-day spring transfer portal window with the quarterback position a need. Backup Brock Vandagriff departed to take the Kentucky starting job this winter, opening a scholarship in the quarterback room.
While Rashada would not be in the mix for the starting job — Carson Beck has that locked up — heading to Athens would provide a new start for the former Arizona State quarterback. Similar to Dante Moore’s decision to leave UCLA for Oregon and take a year to develop, Rashada could find that solution with the Bulldogs.
Georgia head coach Kirby Smart has been adamant that he constantly wants four scholarship quarterbacks on the roster. Gunner Stockton appears set to be the backup, however, freshman Ryan Puglisi currently is dealing with a knee injury. A source told On3 that Smart has been impressed with the 6-foot-5, 185-pound quarterback’s arm strength.
“Always rooting for you,” Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham wrote Thursday night on X. “Go find your spot and go be great like I know you can!”
Landing at Georgia would put Rashada in one of the top programs in the nation. Rashada’s decision to leave Arizona State is the latest twist in his college career. As a high school recruit, he initially committed to Miami in the summer of 2022 and signed a reported $9.5 million NIL deal. Roughly five months later, he flipped from the Hurricanes to Florida.
He flipped his commitment largely because of a massive $13.85 million NIL deal facilitated a Florida NIL collective. Sources told On3 that a contract termination letter was sent to Rashada in early December. He was released from his national letter of intent and landed at Arizona State.
If Georgia can land Jaden Rashada, it would give the Bulldogs some depth and another strong arm. The sixth-ranked quarterback had one of the best arms in the 2023 recruiting class. He’s always had the arm strength to be the face of an elite Power 4 school.
The Bulldogs could provide the fit and environment for Rashada to prosper.
