AP Poll: Georgia set to take on top-ranked team this coming Saturday
Georgia’s headed for a top-5 matchup this weekend at Texas. Now official with the latest drop of the AP Poll, the undefeated Longhorns and one-loss Bulldogs will meet ranked No. 1 and No. 5 respectively on Saturday at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
It’s just the sixth all-time meeting between the two programs. First matching up on New Year’s Day of 1949 in the Orange Bowl, Texas has won 41-28, the first of four wins in the series against Georgia. Texas also claimed the last matchup, a Sugar Bowl showdown to cap off the 2018 season. UGA’s lone win came in the 1984 Cotton Bowl.
Kickoff time for Saturday is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC. ESPN’s College GameDay will get the day of action going in Austin earlier on with the premiere pregame show broadcasting live from the Texas campus. Texas is listed as a 3.5-point favorite according to VegasInsider.

Elsewhere in the AP Poll, Oregon and Penn State each moved up one spot with their victories on Saturday over Ohio State and USC. Both had games go down to the wire with the Nittany Lions needing overtime to top the Trojans. Meanwhile, the Ducks took the lead with 1:47 to go and got a stop of the Ohio State offense in Oregon territory. The Buckeyes dropped two spots to No. 4 with Oregon and Penn State at No. 2 and No. 3.
LSU is a newcomer to the top-10 after its exciting win over Ole Miss. Like Penn State, it took overtime to claim victory in the comeback effort. Garrett Nussmeier tied the game with 27 seconds left before finding Kyren Lacy 25 yards down the field in the end zone on the first play of the overtime possession for the win.
Iowa State also jumped into the top-10 with an impressive win over West Virginia. Tennessee, as a result of a narrow margin of victory and needing overtime to beat Florida, fell out of the top-10 along with Ole Miss.
As for Georgia’s opponents, the following find themselves ranked on October 13: No. 1 Texas (October 19th), No. 7 Alabama (41-34 L), No. 10 Clemson (34-3 W), No. 11 Tennessee (November 16th), No. 18 Ole Miss (November 9th).
