AP Poll: Georgia losing grip on No. 1 spot
Another edition of the AP Poll has Georgia at No. 1 after a road win over Auburn. The Bulldogs trailed 10-0 at the end of the first quarter, were down again early in the second half and needed a score in the final 3:00 to take the lead for good against a Tigers team hungry for a home upset. The end result of all this? Georgia losing 20 first place votes while still keeping the top spot.
Michigan, who beat Nebraska 45-7, and Texas, who handled Kansas 40-14 in a top-25 matchup, both got at least 10 first place votes, the first time this season either team hit double figures. The Wolverines and Longhorns however remain at No. 2 and No. 3 respectively amidst a top-7 that didn’t change at all.
As for Georgia’s future opponents, four find themselves in the top-25, with three coming consecutively. While Florida dropped out with a loss to Kentucky, the Wildcats are new to the poll at No. 20. They’re followed by Missouri and Tennessee in order. Meanwhile, Ole Miss is the highest ranked opponent still on Georgia’s schedule coming in at No. 16 after a win over LSU Saturday night in Oxford.

Kentucky’s jump into the top 25 means that Georgia will play its first ranked game of the season this coming Saturday. The Wildcats come into town with a 5-0 record and off of a 33-14 win over Florida in which running back Ray Davis rushed for 280 yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries.
“Yeah, that’s Mark Stoops’ team. They’re going to be physical. He’s a defensive coach. They run the rock,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said after the game when asked about the upcoming matchup with Kentucky. “I’ve always said our kids are the most sore they’ve ever been after playing them. It was that way last year. It was a bloodbath last year up there. It’ll be the same way. I have so much respect for the way his team plays. The back they’ve got, I’ve heard he’s playing really good. I didn’t know what he had today, but he’s a great player.”
Kickoff time between the Dawgs and Cats at Sanford Stadium is set for 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN. SEC Network’s traveling pregame show SEC Nation will be in Athens to feature the battle for positioning in the SEC East and the inside track to the conference championship game in Atlanta later this season.
