Another four-star prospect locks in Penn State visit

Another four-star prospect locks in Penn State visit

While Penn State works to finish out its Class of 2024, next year’s top prospects are beginning to emerge. With the Lasch Bash set for July 29, PSU aims to host many of the region’s top juniors that weekend. With a camp also set for the prior day, Nittany Lion fans are about to get a better feel for which 2025 prospects they need to focus on once the season begins.

Following last week’s news that Georgia tight end Logan Brooking plans to attend the Lasch Bash, Blue White Illustrated has now learned that position coach Ty Howle will host another top tight end that week in James Flanigan.

A native of Green Bay, Wisc., Flanigan is the son of Jim Flanigan, who played 10 years in the NFL from 1994 to 2003. He also played collegiately at Notre Dame. Because of that, many expect the Fighting Irish to be a top contender.

But Penn State has also grabbed Flanigan’s attention since offering at the end of March. That’s given Howle a few months now to build a relationship with Flanigan and his family.

Recruiting: Two future Penn State players announce they’ll transfer ahead of senior season

“I have just heard that it is a very nice school and campus. I think I want to visit because of that,” Flanigan said. “I’m excited to see what it’s like because I have never really seen Penn State at all. I also want to talk more with Coach Ty Howle. He has come out to my school before and I get on the phone with him pretty much every other week. I just want to learn more about the program and Penn State as a school.”

That won’t be the only visit that Flanigan takes next week. He’ll actually check out schools on both sides of the country, beginning with a flight to California to see Stanford, July 25-26. After that, Flanigan will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., July 27 to meet with Jim Harbaugh and his staff at Michigan before they make their way to State College.

Flanigan said he’ll spend about 24 hours in Happy Valley, getting into town in the afternoon on July 28. He and his father plan to stay the night before leaving Saturday around midday for a return visit to Notre Dame on July 30.

Overall, Flanigan has totaled 10 scholarship offers so far. Notre Dame and Wisconsin have both hosted him on multiple visits already. He also attended a game at Minnesota last September.

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, which combines On3’s rating with 247Sports, Rivals and ESPN, Flanigan is ranked No. 203 nationally in the Class of 2025. He’s the eighth-ranked player at his position and the second-ranked prospect in Wisconsin.
