Another 2025 recruit locks in Penn State visit date

With just a few scholarships still available in the Class of 2024, Penn State’s recruiting staff has shifted much of its focus to the 2025 class since mid-July. So far, James Franklin and his staff have earned three early commitments. They also sit in a strong position with a handful of regional players, which is why the class could realistically grow in the months ahead as players attend games this season.

Wide receiver Carleton Preston has no plans to announce a commitment any time soon, but his visit history suggests that he has serious interest in the Nittany Lions. In addition to attending the Blue-White Game in 2022, the Woodbridge, Va., has visited Penn State twice this year, watching a spring practice in March before attending the Lasch Bash Barbecue just a few weeks ago.

Now, Preston confirmed that he’s locked in for a fourth visit, which will take place Sept. 23 for the White Out game against Iowa.

“What I like about Penn State is the atmosphere and the culture,” Preston said recently. “It’s like everyone there is like family and I love a place like that. What I like about the coaching staff is they’re all great mentors and coaches. They speak highly of all their players all the time. They make sure their players are always on track.”

Listed at 6-foot, 155 pounds, Preston has earned just over a dozen scholarship offers so far. Including Penn State, he’s totaled nine Power Five schools, including Colorado, Maryland, Michigan and Wisconsin, among others.

Preston has also visited a few others programs already, including trips to Maryland and Virginia. He’s been to College Park more than any other school to this point, totaling six visits.

With an 87 overall rating by On3, Preston is considered a three-star prospect. He’s the 68th-ranked wide receiver and the 14th-ranked player in Maryland for the Class of 2025.
