Analysis and evaluation on recent 2025 DB commit Anquon Fegans

It has been two days since USC landed a major commitment from 2025 Oxford (Ala.) Thompson four-star safety Anquon Fegans.

For those not aware, Fegans is the No. 17 overall prospect and No. 2 safety in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also ranked as the No. 3 player in Alabama.

Fegans’ announcement came within just one hour of his older bother, Tre’Quon Fegans, announcing he would be transferring to USC from Alabama.

Now that two days has passed the “Breaking News” has settled, we can take some time to see what USC is getting in the young Fegans.

I will provide some of my own thoughts on Fegans as a player as well as an evaluation from On3 National.

My personal thoughts on Fegans

After watching Fegans’ junior film, the main thing that stands out to me is his downhill ability. Whether it is in the passing or running game, he is at his best when he is working his way back to the to the goal line. It is not that he lacks downfield playmaking ability at all, he just has a much more natural feel downhill. He has fantastic play recognition and awareness on quick routes, allowing him to jump comeback and slant routes quite often. Most of his interceptions come within 10-yards of the line of scrimmage.

Working downhill in the running game is something that will benefit USC when the make their way to the Big 10. Having some pop at the contact point and a willingness to get physical with ball carriers in the open field is something that shows quickly on tape.

Fegans has positional versatility from the cornerback to safety spots and even slides in to the nickel. He has flexible hips and quick feet, which allows him to play man coverage well and press when needed.

Another big thing that I found with him is that he is simply just opportunistic. When he has a chance to take the ball away, he does. There are times a quarterback makes a bad throw or a wideout falls in the route and Fegans makes them pay. He will likely continue to be a player who has multiple takeaways a year at the next level.

On3 Scouting Evaluation

This evaluation was provided by On3’s Scouting and Rankings Assistant Cody Bellaire.

“Good looking build for a 2025 DB, has great length with a frame that should continue to add mass with ease. Explosive player on tape that has positional versatility. Lines up in the slot, in the boundary, as a deep half safety and as a pure center fielder. Comes downhill aggressively and is a consistent tackler. Has some power on contact and real pop in his pads. Very comfortable when the ball is in front of him as a zone defender. Triggers quickly and has immense field vision and awareness. Not sure if he has ideal top-end speed at this point to be a corner at the next level so I think safety is most likely his home, but he has the ability to hang with backs and tight ends in man coverage if asked to do so. Safety projection who will be a consistent issue for offenses around the box as a run defender and as a robber in the passing game.”
