Amaris Williams ‘100 percent’ locked in with Gators, impressed with ’24 class

Other programs continue to reach out to him. But Florida Gators commit Amaris Williams said he keeping telling them the same thing: No thanks.
“It’s over,” Williams said Saturday following Florida’s Grill in the Ville event. “I’m 100 percent (committed).”
Williams, a 4-star recruit from Clinton (N.C.), is one of the most intriguing prospects on the 2024 Florida commit listed. He’s listed a defensive lineman, but the Gators apparently see him lining up in multiple spots.
In fact, when asked if he’d be an edge or a defensive lineman at Florida, Williams responded, “I’m both. I’m versatile.”
“I can come in and dominate. The plan they have for me right now, when I come in I’m going to be playing the jack position,” Williams told Gators Online. “So when I come in, I’m going to be there, but I’m versatile. I’m playing jack, the F — just different positions. Me being the weight that I am — I’m 265-270 — I can go back and forth.”
Williams, the No. 2 prospect in the state of North Carolina for the On3 Industry Ranking, committed to the Gators in June while on his official visit in Gainesville. Heading into that trip, Penn State was believed by many to be the favorite. And apparently, the Nittany Lions haven’t thrown in the towel just yet.
“I’m hearing from Penn State, Tennessee, Georgia — that’s really it,” Williams said.
He then said he would take “no more” visits to other schools.
But he will be back in Gainesville this fall.
“I’m going to come back up here my bye week during the season,” Williams said. “It’s not really a big game for them (that week). They play McNeese or something like that.”
Overall, Williams is excited about the Gators’ 2024 class, which currently is No. 3 in the country.
“It’s phenomenal,” Williams said. “It’s a lot of good 2024 players. I’ve actually watched some of their film. Nasir (Johnson), he’s one of them. I’ve been communicating with him since (June). The visit we came on, our OVs, we committed like back to back. He’s somebody I can talk to about it. It’s a good class overall.”
