Alabama among programs working to flip 4-star Miami commit Cam Pruitt

Miami is continuing to face competition for Theodore (Al.) 2024 four-star Miami linebacker commit Cam Pruitt from programs including Alabama.

Ole Miss, Georgia Tech and the Crimson Tide have made the strongest efforts to flip Pruitt from Miami over the last month after the top-400 prospect chose the Hurricanes over more than two dozen programs during his official visit weekend June 9. Alabama extended a committable offer to the 6-foot-2.5, 185-pound linebacker in late July following his workout for the Tide’s coaching staff, and they’re currently working to get him to Tuscaloosa for a game day visit this fall.

Miami has remained Pruitt’s top option and his undisputed leader since he committed to the Hurricanes, and he previously told CaneSport he wouldn’t commit to a program just because of its name. He said he wants to play for a school where he feels at home and has a connection with the coaching staff, which he said he feels in Coral Gables.

Miami has continued to recruit Pruitt the hardest of the schools interested in him.

“Miami, they just talk to me, check up on me send me love before my football games, stuff like that,” Pruitt said. “They just keep showing love and talking about football. There’s no craziness.”

Alabama defensive coordinator Kevin Steele, Miami’s former defensive coordinator, has led the charge for the Tide; he had mild communication with Steele while he was at Miami, but they hadn’t had much contact before the last few months.

Pruitt said Alabama, Georgia Tech and Ole Miss are all making similar efforts to flip him and no one school is pushing harder than the others. He hears from the coaching staffs daily — the same amount he hears from Miami. He plans to return to Miami for a game visit this fall but does not have a date set.

Pruitt says he plans to shut down his recruitment sometime relatively soon but has not looked at a specific date. He plans to sign in December and enroll in January, 2024.

CaneSport’s Take

There was initially some anxiety for Miami fans after Alabama extended a committable offer to the four-star prospect, but Pruitt has stayed the course in his recruitment and hasn’t wavered from Miami. The Hurricanes remain in strong shape with Pruitt thanks to his relationship with linebackers coach Derek Nicholson, who played a pivotal role in landing Pruitt’s commitment, and it doesn’t appear there’s anything to worry about just yet.
