ACC Transfer Portal Breakdown: Boston College

ACC Transfer Portal Breakdown: Boston College

As SMU football nears its first season competing in the ACC, On the Pony Express will break down the transfer classes of every team in the conference.

The series continues with Boston College, currently ranked No. 11 out of 17 teams in the ACC. The Eagles have 16 players leaving and 10 coming in.

That gives BC a 2 Index Score in the On3’s Team Transfer Portal Index.

Boston College Transfer Class Breakdown

Boston College gets a pair of Ohio State defensive backs in former four-star safety Cameron Martinez and cornerback Ryan Turner. The Eagles also addressed needs at receiver with Jerand Bradley (DeSoto High) and Jayden McGowan and running back with Jordan McDonald and Treshaun Ward.

Tight end Kamari Morales joins Ward and McGowan as the top rated transfers at 88.

Top Offensive Transfer: RB Treshaun Ward

Not only was running back a position of need for Boston College, it got an experienced one with a track record of playing at a high level in Ward.

In five seasons, four at Florida State and one at Kansas State, Ward has played in 37 games. He was FSU’s second-leading rusher in 2022 playing in just 10 games. Ward rushed for 643 yards, second on the team, and five touchdowns in 11 games last season.

Will be a great compliment to returning leading running back Kye Robichaux.

Top Defensive Transfer: S Cameron Martinez

Martinez checks a lot of the boxes as a transfer for Boston College. He was a highly rated recruit, a consensus four-star and the No. 7 athlete in the 2020 class. He played in 29 games over three seasons at Ohio State with 40 tackles, an interception and five passes defended.

The only question mark is that Martinez only played in three games last season and even though he had the fifth-most snaps of any OSU safety in 2022, had injury issues that season as well.

If Martinez can stay healthy, he adds a veteran with a lot of experience to a secondary that struggled most of last season.

Key Losses

BC lost four running backs and three receivers from last year’s team. Former four-star Patrick Garwo was the fourth-leading rusher. On the receiver side, Joseph Griffin Jr. — also a former four-star — was the second-leading receiver and Jaden Williams was fifth.

Edge Shitta Sillah played five seasons for Boston College, but only played one game in 2022 and eight in 2023 before injuries ended both seasons early.

The Eagles also lost depth at quarterback and tight end with two transfers out each. Emmett Morehead started four games in 2022 and began the 2023 season as the starter before losing the job to Thomas Castellanos.
