A new name to watch for Tennessee basketball in the NCAA Transfer Portal
The newest name to track for Tennessee basketball in the NCAA Transfer Portal is Ohio State’s Roddy Gayle Jr. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound sophomore guard averaged 13.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists this season, shooting 44.9% from the field.
Gayle, who entered the portal on April 3, is a former four-star prospect in the 2022 recruiting cycle. He was No. 62 overall in the On3 Industry Ranking and was the No. 8 shooting guard in the country.
He averaged 30.9 minutes per game for the Buckeyes this season, starting 35 of 36 games. He shot 51.1% on 2-point field goals, but shot just 28.4% from the 3-point line.
Vols have six roster spots to fill on 2024-25 roster
Gayle went 140-for-274 from the 3-point line. He shot 42.9% from three as a freshman in 2022-23, going 21-for-49 in 35 games.
Tennessee currently has six roster spots to fill on the 2024-25 roster. The Vols over the weekend hosted Belmont forward Cade Tyson and Hofstra wing Darlinstone Dubar. On Tuesday Charlotte forward Igor Milicic is scheduled to visit.
Milicic, the 6-foot-10, 225-pound junior, averaged 12.8 points and 8.5 rebounds this season with the 49ers, shooting 48.7% from the field and 37.6% from the 3-point line.
He started his career at Virginia before transferring to Charlotte after the 2021-22 season. He entered the transfer portal on March 25.
Four Tennessee players have entered the NCAA Transfer Portal
Tyson, the 6-foot-7, 205-pound sophomore averaged 16.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 0.9 steals in 31.6 minutes per game at Belmont this season, starting all 31 games.
Dubar spent the last three seasons at Hofstra after playing his first season at Iowa State. Dubar averaged a career-high 17.8 points per game in 33 games this season, shooting 53.9% from the floor and 39.9% from the 3-point line. He also averaged 6.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 34.6 minutes per game.
Tennessee has seen four players enter the NCAA Transfer Portal since the season ended two weeks ago: Junior center Jonas Aidoo, sophomore forward Tobe Awaka and redshirt freshmen Freddie Dilione and DJ Jefferson.
Awaka could return to the Vols and take his name out of the portal following Aidoo’s departure.
He averaged 5.1 points, 4.6 rebound and 0.6 blocks in 12.9 minutes per game, coming off the bench in 33 games this season. He averaged 3.2 points and 3.8 rebounds in 10.3 minutes per game as a freshman.
