A look back at how Texas’ 2022 signing class fared as freshmen – Pt. 2

There were 28 players that enrolled at Texas immediately after high school as part of the 2022 signing class that was ranked fifth nationally.

Some of those freshman had immediate impacts for the Longhorns’ 8-5 season. Others are primed for success this season as Texas competes for the final time in the Big 12 Conference. And some may be a little longer in their development and finding a spot in the two-deep rotation.
Here’s part 2 of our look at how the 28 freshmen fared in 2022. Part 1 of this recap was published on Wednesday.
Maalik Murphy, QB
Murphy did not see any game action during the 2022 season as he rehabilitated from an ankle injury he suffered in his final high school game. He is currently the Longhorns’ backup quarterback.
Austin Jordan, DB
Jordan played in all 13 games last year, often seeing time at cornerback. He totaled seven tackles (four solo) with half a tackle for loss on the season.
Cameron Williams, OT
Williams played in all 13 games last season, primarily on the field goal unit.
Aaron Bryant, DL
Bryant saw action in two contests in 2022. He is a member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll (spring 2022).
Ethan Burke, EDGE
Burke played in 11 games last season, racking up six total tackles (five of them solo) and one and a half tackles for a loss.
Larry Turner-Gooden, DB
Turner-Gooden played in four games in 2022, including the Alamo Bowl. The early enrollee is a two-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll (spring 2022, fall 2022).
Derrick Brown, EDGE
Brown did not see any game action in 2022. He transferred to Texas State this spring.
Malik Agbo, OL
Agbo appeared in two games in 2022.
Cole Hutson, OL
Hutson, an early enrollee, played in and started all 13 games at right guard for Texas last season. He underwent surgery in the spring for a shoulder injury and should return in time for full participation in fall camp. Hutson is a two-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll (spring 2022, fall 2022).
Connor Robertson, OL
Robertson saw action in four games in 2022, including the Alamo Bowl. He underwent wrist surgery during the spring and should be back in time for full participation in fall camp.
Trevell Johnson, LB
Johnson did not see any game action last season. He transferred to Louisiana-Monroe in the Spring of 2023.
X’Avion Brice, DB
Brice played in two games in 2022, recording a tackle against Kansas. He will contend for time at corner and should be a part of several special teams units this year.
Zac Swanson, DL
Swanson saw action in two games last year and made a tackle in the season-opener against Louisiana-Monroe.
Savion Red, WR
Red played in nine games in 2022 and caught six passes for 34 yards. He transitioned from wide receiver to running back this Spring and should play a role in the 2023 offense.
Will Stone, K
Stone saw action in all 13 games last year and handled kickoff duties in each contest. He kicked off 86 times for 5,369 yards (62.4 avg) with 26 touchbacks. He was a member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll (fall 2022).

Lance St. Louis, LS
St. Louis played in 10 games in 2022 as Texas’ deep snapper.
