A look at five recruits Michigan could circle back to in the secondary this cycle

A look at five recruits Michigan could circle back to in the secondary this cycle

Michigan’s secondary board is thinning out with several targets going elsewhere over the last month. Right now, Michigan has just one commit (On300 prospect Jacob Oden) and two primary targets in Top 100 recruits Zaquan Patterson and Aaron Scott.

Here is a look at five secondary recruits the Wolverines could circle back to as they prepare to potentially expand the board.

Jalen Todd, Southfield (Mich.) AT&T

A three-star prospect, Todd gave Kansas a verbal commitment last month. However, Todd visited Michigan on multiple occasions last year and always seemed really high on the Wolverines and lead recruiter Steve Clinkscale. While there could be some hurt feelings here, Michigan is obviously the superior program close to home. Todd, who is ranked as the No. 533 overall prospect nationally, projects at corner at 6-foot-1, 165 pounds but also has experience playing safety. While he’s still raw, he does bring plenty of upside on the back end.

Nigel Maynard, Smyrna (Tenn.) Stewarts Creek

Maynard was trending towards Michigan before he gave Pitt a verbal commitment last month. The Wolverines really liked the three-star prospect and his ceiling, so it wouldn’t be surprised if they circled back during the dead period. In fact, I’m told some around Michigan saw Maynard in the same mold as Rod Moore. Michigan was recruiting Maynard as a safety, but the 6-foot, 180-pounder can play some corner as well. Maynard is ranked in the 1000s when it comes to the On3 Industry Rankings, but he could very well be a steal this cycle.

Jeremiah Lowe, Lexington (Ky.) Frederick Douglass

Michigan actually has the lead for Lowe on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine with a 68.7 percent chance of landing him. While Lowe isn’t high on the board today, that could definitely change moving forward. The three-star prospect has visited U-M on multiple occasions, including for an unofficial visit this offseason. Lowe remains uncommitted, so Michigan would have an easier time pressing for him later in the cycle. Lowe was a teammate of Clinkscale’s son, and the two have a strong relationship. Lowe is another prospect ranked in the 1000s, but the 5-foot-11, 170-pound corner is definitely intriguing.

Omillio Agard, Philadelphia (Pa.) St. Joseph’s

A three-star prospect, Agard visited Michigan twice last year and had the Wolverines in his top group going into June official visits. However, Michigan didn’t really push for him, and Agard ended up committing to Wisconsin last week. At 5-foot-10, 160 pounds, Agard is a straight corner. While he doesn’t have amazing speed, he is very technical on the outside and consistently plays top level competition at the high school level. If Michigan does push again, it wouldn’t be surprising if he, at the very least, listened to what the Wolverines had to say. Agard is the highest ranked of the recruits on this list, checkin in at No. 452 nationally.

Lloyd Irvin, Upper Marlboro (Md.) Flowers

Irvin is unranked but was really starting to see his stock pick up during the spring evaluation period. In fact, Michigan put an offer on the table after seeing him live during their swing through the DMV. Irvin was in the process of scheduling a June official visit before things fell through, and he committed to Maryland last week. Irvin seems comfortable staying closer to home and playing for the local program. However, if Michigan circles back and gets him on campus, it could really open his eyes. At 6-foot-2, 170 pounds, Irvin definitely has flexibility on the back end.
