A few Georgia players banged up for first day in full pads

ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia was in full pads for the first time this fall on Tuesday, and a few Bulldogs were banged up. Working separately from their respective position groups were: running back Kendall Milton, linebacker Smael Mondon, cornerback Kamari Lassiter, wide receiver Rara Thomas, defensive back Dan Jackson and defensive lineman Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins. They were off to the side with a support staffer going through conditioning drills.

Furthermore, freshman defensive back Chris Peal who worked with the corners last time media saw a portion of practice on Thursday was also separate from his position group. Peal spent his time on a bike with a boot on his right foot and was walking gingerly off the field after he was done.

Exact details on the injuries to Milton, Lassiter, Thomas and Peal are unknown. Media is expected to speak with head coach Kirby Smart for a second time since the start of preseason practice on Saturday after the team’s first scrimmage. Smart did note however in his last session that Georgia had a few hamstring injuries coming out of summer conditioning, and Lassiter was not present during media viewing at Thursday’s practice.

Smart previously shared that Mondon and Ingram-Dawkins were not at full speed to start fall camp, each dealing with a foot injury. Jackson is also in that category, suffering a stress fracture that ended his 2022 campaign.

For Mondon, the injury occurred during spring practice prior to the G-Day scrimmage and has kept him from being a full participant in drills up to this point. Smart did say however that he is ahead of schedule from what was expected of him throughout the summer.

As for Ingram-Dawkins, Smart described his injury in detail last Thursday, making sure to note that it’s not a break.

“Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins has been dealing with a little bit of a navicular foot issue but it’s not a break or anything right now. It’s a stress reaction that we’ve had to hold him out some and keep him out of activity some. But he should be cleared soon.”
