Looking at the recruiting landscape with five announcements upcoming
With the addition of Aeryn Hampton of Daingerfield on Friday evening, the Horns now have 13 pledges on the recruiting campaign. That means Steve Sarkisian are more than halfway thru the cycle.
And there are multiple decisions on the horizon, several of which are of particular importance along the defensive front.
Announcement schedule:
Malik Blocton – Later today at 3 p.m.
Melvin Hills – July 12
Jayden Jackson – July 13
D’Antre Robinson – July 21
Corian Gipson – July 22
Four of those five are defensive linemen.
While Texas is apparently willing to concede Blocton to Auburn, the Horns are locked in battles for Hills, Jackson and Robinson, not to mention TJ Lindsey, who has yet to give media a definitive timeframe for his decision.
As we all know, all of those players are important recruits to Texas because the Horns must fortify the DL as they head to the SEC in 2024.

Gipson’s recruitment is one of the oddest we’ve seen. I can’t recall ever seeing so many different media members so vastly at odds over a player’s expected choice.

Edge recruiting is clearly in wait-and-see mode.
The Horns are all in on Colin Simmons, Zina Umeozulu and Danny Okoye.
Yet none of those players have set a date for a commitment. While there have been thoughts that both Simmons and Umeozulu might choose to announce decisions prior to their seniors seasons, Okoye told Justin Wells this week that he plans to take his recruitment into the fall.

Wide receiver Ryan Wingo and offensive lineman Brandon Baker are two five-stars on the offensive side of the ball that Sark and staff continue to push hard for. Add those two to an already impressive offensive recruiting haul and it starts looking like one of the elite offensive classes in the country. Sark, Tashard Choice, Kyle Flood, Jeff Banks, AJ Milwee and now Chris Jackson all seem to be pushing the right buttons.
