Ole Miss WR Tre Harris ‘about 75 percent right now,’ ready to show Rebel Nation his skill-set

Ole Miss WR Tre Harris ‘about 75 percent right now,’ ready to show Rebel Nation his skill-set

Ole Miss Wide Receiver Tre Harris, who transferred from Louisiana Tech last January, didn’t get off to the start he wanted as a Rebel.

He’s confident everything is going to turn out fine in the long run.

You see, Harris missed the entire spring with a hamstring issue and while he’s still not 100%, he feels he’s on track to be ready to rumble in August.

“I’m about 75 percent right now. Taking things slowly to make sure I’m ready for fall camp,” said the 6-2, 205-pounder. “I’m confident the hamstring will heal in time for the season.”

Harris caught 65 balls for 935 yards and 10 touchdowns a year ago of La Tech.

Even though Harris missed the full-speed aspects of spring, he says he’s not behind in his understanding of the offense.

“You can learn a lot by watching, plus we do walk throughs, installs, film work and lots of half speed reps,” he explained. “I’m not behind mentally. I know the plays and the signals very well.”

Harris believes in himself and in his ability as a football player and wideout. He was ranked this summer as the highest-graded returning wide receiver in the SEC by Pro Football Focus.

“In my mind, there is nobody who can cover me one-on-one and that will not change,” he stated. “I believe I have the ability to be dominant. I’m also a jump ball guy – I feel if a ball is in the air, it is mine. I also like to block in the run game. I consider that one of my strengths.”

But even the most confident and polished receiver feels there is an opportunity for improvement. Tre is no different.

“The way to go from good to great is to get more yards after the catch. I need to get upfield more after I catch the ball and make defenders miss more often,” Harris added.

Harris says he does not have a preference in quarterbacks.

Actually, he’s comfortable with all three of the main ones for 2023.

“Walker (Howard) and I are both from Lafayette (LA), so I have thrown with him before and I am comfortable with Jaxson (Dart) and Spencer (Sanders). All three are very talented and can lead this team to where we want to go – the winner’s circle,” Harris assessed. “We do things off the field too because we realize how important good chemistry is. That will carry us a long way toward our goals.”

Tre is the recipient of an NIL deal through The Grove Collective and while he appreciates the financial burden being lifted from him, his relationship with GC is much more than that to him.

“Just meeting The Grove Collective people has been very special. Mr. and Mrs. (William) Liston have been like a family away from home and that’s been huge to me,” he closed. “The sense of home they have given me has kept me from being homesick and has been very important to me. I am very grateful for the Listons and the GC.”

We haven’t seen Tre Harris in a Rebel uniform yet – practice or game, but fellow Reb WR Jordan Watkins said we will be pleased.

“Tre is the real deal, believe me,” Watkins said recently.

In Watkins we trust.
