Impact: What’s Next at Linebacker for Oregon?

At the start of the 2024 recruiting cycle there were three positions Oregon had to hit on. Those three in my opinion were linebacker, tight end and offensive tackle. It doesn’t negate the importance of other positions. But those were musts.
On Friday Oregon landed its first linebacker in the 2024 class. And a big one to boot. Long Beach Poly (Calif.) linebacker Dylan Williams committed to Oregon over Michigan State,UCLA, Washington, USC and others. Williams will bring versatility to the position group. He’s athletic with the ability to cover a lot of ground.
That versatility is also helpful with Oregon’s recruiting efforts moving forward at linebacker.
Oregon would like to sign 3-4 linebackers in this class. And I think it’s pretty clear at this point who the top targets currently are.
Here’s a quick review on those targets as Oregon moves forward.
Justin Williams
Of course one of the top targets in this recruiting class for Oregon regardless of position. And currently Oregon is in a fierce battle with Georgia for the 5-Star backer. Depending on who you talk to, on the day, this one goes back and forth. Some like Oregon, some like Georgia. But I think most will universally agree, whoever leads, doesn’t lead by much.
There’s a chance he commits in July although he hasn’t confirmed anything. I don’t think an immediate decision or a delayed one benefits or hurts Oregon. You just keep recruiting him.
Kamar Mothudi
He’ll make his commitment and let’s hope there aren’t any wrinkles with this one in the next 72 hours. If not, Oregon looks like the team to beat and should land its second linebacker commit. Which takes a lot of pressure off this staff. With quality and quantity being a priority at linebacker in this cycle, the Ducks would have two of the top West coast options locked down.
Brayden Platt
His commitment will come in September. And I do have a very low confidence pick in for Oregon currently. But Oklahoma is 100-percent in this and I would call it neck and neck currently. At 6-1, 220, he’s also versatile, which has value for Oregon.
I won’t get too much into this one. While landing Justin Williams would be the holy grail, even if Oregon were to land Dylan Williams, Mothudi and Platt, that would be a very strong linebacker class. But landing all four, whooweeeee.
