Smaller Kansas State class

KSO has shared repeatedly the last few months to expect a smaller class to be signed by Kansas State. That is no surprise. One of the details responsible for that is, technically, Daniel Green is the only scholarship defensive player on the entire roster that will see his eligibility expire after this season.

That is how young the Wildcats are at this point. There just may not be much leaving the team after the 2023 season. A chunk will still exit, but until the K-State staff can determine where those departures will be, they don’t necessarily have the luxury of allocating additional spots for the Class of 2024.

So, for those concerned that only seven commits are in the hopper and that traction only exists with targets like Grant Brix and Michael Boganowski, that is the reason. In fact, a source recently revealed to us that it is possible that Kansas State signs a high school class of less than 15 members.

Remember, for a cycle that could struggle to reach 20 total, the Wildcats will still want to supplement the squad with junior college prospects and offseason transfers as well.

Addressing large freshmen group

Part of the reason that K-State anticipates signing a smaller group is not just because of the 85 number, but they also added a huge high school class a cycle ago. For example, they plucked four wideouts, two tight ends, three defensive ends, three linebackers and three safeties.

In fact, strategy is currently being mapped out by the Kansas State coaches to address the plethora of first year youngsters. With it being such a massive collection of talent and followed by a much smaller bunch, they will want to chop up and divide the eligibility of a few of this year’s true freshmen.

That means we could see a handful of those K-State true freshmen not redshirt to create some separation in eligibility. A few that have received stout praise early on are Avery Johnson (we expect him to redshirt), Joe Jackson, Tre Spivey, Chiddi Obiazor, Asa Newsom, Wesley Fair, Kanijal Thomas and Kameron Sallis.

Latest on K-State target Grant Brix

Speaking of the two targets mentioned above, in Brix and Boganowski, we haven’t shared the latest on the Kansas State targets in a bit. Little to nothing has surfaced on either in that timeframe, especially as it relates to the Junction City defender.

In terms of Brix, while we continue to hear that the Wildcats and Nebraska are both confident and believe it is a battle between the two former Big 12 rivals, the Oklahoma contingent would disagree. The Sooners insist that they are still in contention with the four-star offensive lineman from Iowa.
