‘Very natural and explosive’: Chamberlain Campbell’s frame and game excite Randall Joyner, Ole Miss

Lakewood (Fla.) EDGE Chamberlain Campbell wasn’t exactly a household name in 2022. He was a late bloomer due to playing one season of high school football but the Ole Miss staff liked what it saw immediately.
Several Power 5 schools saw some potential in his game and skill set but it was Randall Joyner and the Rebels who signed the 6-foot-7 defensive end prospect.
Miami, Auburn, Florida State, Michigan State, Louisville, Kansas and Missouri, among others, tried to bring him in but it was the consistent approach from Joyner which helped Ole Miss land the Florida recruit.
“He is a special, special talent,” Joyner said. “He’s an amazing human being and I think he has a very, very high ceiling.”
Chamberlain Campbell made 45 tackles as a senior along with 15 tackles for loss and eight sacks.
He also defended three passes and forced a fumble. Campbell is also a standout athlete on the hardwood for Lakewood with his elite frame and high-level athleticism. He has only been playing basketball for a few years, but you see flashes of his ability in transition and in the paint with his knack for finishing above the rim.
“He is very natural and explosive in his movements,” Joyner said. “Very special for a guy that hasn’t played a ton of football. Very high upside, natural pass rush skills and a very smart, driven young man.”

The frame has plenty of room to fill out once he arrives on campus and gets in the lab with Nick Savage. But you can’t teach 6-foot-7 and the kind of leaping ability Campbell has. I expect him to need a year of fine-tuning and technique work but the coaching staff loves his potential.
The Rebels are looking to replace a few edge rushers up front.
Tavius Robinson is off to the NFL with the Ravens and names like Demon Clowney, Isaiah Iton and Brandon Mack have all moved on via the NCAA Transfer Portal. Campbell won’t be counted on immediately but he will need to be a reliable depth piece in 2024 and beyond. Especially if the frame and game continue to grow.
