Lucky Charms: Elite OT locks in Notre Dame visit

Here are today’s Lucky Charms, a Monday-Thursday nightly insider notes article on Notre Dame football recruiting.
*** Waukesha (Wis.) Catholic Memorial’s Owen Strebig, who ranks as the nation’s No. 70 player and No. 10 offensive tackle according to the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking, informed Blue & Gold Monday that he’s scheduled to visit Notre Dame on July 30, which is the staff’s big recruiting event for the month. Strebig added that he’ll visit Miami July 27 and Florida July 29.
Strebig has been a regular in South Bend recently, visiting campus April 15 and June 22. After his June visit, he spoke with Blue & Gold’s Kyle Kelly and gave high praises of the Irish.
“I really like (Notre Dame),” Strebig said. “I’m really at a good point. They’ve done a good job of recruiting me. I’m really, really liking Notre Dame right now.”
Iowa, Penn State, Minnesota, Michigan, Florida State, USC and UCLA are among the other offers for Strebig thus far.
*** Washington (Okla.) High’s Nate Roberts, the No. 133 prospect and No. 3 tight end per the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking, committed to the Irish June 17. I asked him about upcoming visit plans, and he’s actually going to be in South Bend July 10-11 with his girlfriend for a softball camp at Notre Dame. This trip will take place during a recruiting dead period, so Roberts won’t get to see the coaching staff, but it’ll still be a good opportunity for him to get around campus. Roberts also plans to get back to South Bend later this year for the USC game.
After committing to Notre Dame, Roberts picked up an offer from Florida, which is a good indicator that other programs won’t give up on recruiting him. There’s a long way to go until signing day for 2025, but there’s no indication that Roberts is anything but solid with the Irish.
*** This is more of a side note that I found pretty interesting. On Thursday, Tucson (Ariz.) Salpointe Catholic’s Elijah Rushing, the No. 30 overall prospect and No. 4 EDGE according to the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking, will announce his commitment with Arizona, Notre Dame, Oregon and Tennessee making up his final four schools.
It’s been clear to me that ever since his Notre Dame official visit last month the Irish were likely not to land his commitment. It appears that the Irish will finish third or fourth in the recruitment.
The interesting development is that On3 Oregon insider Justin Hopkins flipped his prediction from the Ducks to Arizona a day in advance of Rushing’s announcement. Oregon was considered the team to beat for Rushing for quite some time.
If Rushing does end up at Arizona, then it just goes to show how unpredictable recruiting is these days.
