Newsstand: Former Notre Dame commit Isiah Canion completes flip to ACC school

Notre Dame surprisingly lost a commitment Saturday when Warner Robins (Ga.) High’s Isiah Canion, the No. 290 overall prospect and No. 49 wide receiver, tweeted that he’d be backing off his Irish pledge that he gave in late April.

And two days after his decommitment, Canion announced that he’d be pledging to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

It’s clear that proximity to home ended up a key factor for where Canion wanted to play his college ball, as he wasted no time completing the flip.

Notre Dame still has two receiver commitments in the 2024 cycle, coming from Charlotte (N.C.) Christian’s Micah Gilbert and Glen Ellyn (Ill.) Glenbard South’s Cam Williams.

Gilbert ranks as the No. 220 overall recruit and No. 37 wideout per the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking, while Williams is the No. 36 player and No. 10 receiver per the same metric.

Notre Dame will likely look to replace Canion with another receiver prospect.

He committed to Notre Dame over offers from Florida State, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Cincinnati, Mississippi State, Duke, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Dartmouth and others. He didn’t receive his first scholarship offer until Feb. 17.
