Elite WR Bryant Wesco recaps LSU visit, eyes official visits
2024 Midlothian (Tex.) wide receiver Bryant Wesco is one of the nation’s top overall prospects and was at LSU for the first time on a two-day visit that wrapped up Wednesday.
“It was pretty neat,” Wesco told On3. “Coach Tez was pretty cool. He had good practice for his players and drills and all that. Think practice was ran pretty well. I didn’t have any problems. I didn’t dislike anything from their program and visit at all. I know LSU is a really powerhouse school and good for receivers so it was pretty good.”
Wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton stood out with how he trains his players and gives them his all throughout that process.
“My meeting with him, we went over what his expectations were and what he looks for in a receiver and went over some of the formations and some of the routes that they run,” Wesco said. “What they train on and how it reflects into the game. He’s a really passionate coach when it comes to football and he’s just so complimentative and really cares about his players. What stood out about him is how he is so passionate and energized when it comes down to football whenever he steps on the field.”
Head coach Brian Kelly spent time with the highly-touted prospect, making his pitch to him.
“I spent a good bit of time with coach Kelly and he’s a great guy, pretty funny,” Wesco said. “We just talked about what you need to look for whenever you look for a college and how LSU separates from the rest of the colleges. Talk about The Path, which is something LSU uses for their motto.”
While Bryant Wesco was on campus, he toured around different areas and was impressed.
“I’ve never seen their football facility and when I saw it, it looked nicer than I thought it would,” he said. “We did a campus tour, saw the dorms, eating areas and academic halls.”
Two official visits in mind for Wesco
Clemson and Oklahoma are two schools he’s visited already and is set on taking official visits to those programs. The Sooners have recruited him for a while and Clemson just offered after his unofficial visit earlier this month. He’s not locked in dates for those yet.
“We’re planning to take an official visit to Clemson and Oklahoma on their time period. That’s all we have so far. I don’t have any other unofficials planned.”
Bryant Wesco plans to make a decision before his senior season. TCU leads the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. Oklahoma, TCU, Clemson, LSU, Nebraska, Colorado, Texas, and Arkansas made his Top 8, which he released Wednesday night.
Bryant Wesco stars at Under Armour Dallas
On3 scouted Wesco at Under Armour Dallas, where he was named MVP by the camp as well as On3 scouting and rankings assistant Cody Bellaire.
“Bryant Wesco was a menace to cover all afternoon. Whether it was 50-50 jump balls, intermediate routes or anything underneath – he was unstoppable,” Bellaire wrote. “The Midlothian (Texas) High standout solidified his MVP performance with the catch of the afternoon, elevating on a jump ball in the end zone during the 1-on-1 portion of the workout. His natural hands, ability to separate at the top of his route and explosiveness to high point the football really shined in what was a talented wide receiver group.”
As a junior, Wesco had 58 receptions for 1,160 yards and 14 touchdowns. He even had a 93-yard touchdown reception and averaged 20 yards a reception.
Wesco is the No. 34 overall prospect and No. 9 wide receiver in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 7 player in Texas.
On3 rates Bryant Wesco as the No. 25 overall prospect, No. 6 wide receiver and No. 6 player in Texas.
The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder is also a high-level high school triple-jumper and the son of five-time All-American triple jumper Bryant Wesco Sr., who starred at Louisiana Tech. His sister, Bailey, plays soccer at Oklahoma.
