Steelers’ Levi Wallace comments on additions of Patrick Peterson and Joey Porter Jr.

Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Levi Wallace has seen some new, top talent join the team’s cornerbacks room this offseason in the form of Patrick Peterson and Joey Porter Jr.

The two players come to Pittsburgh from different backgrounds and different situations. Peterson is a 32-year-old potential Hall of Famer who has made three NFL All-Pro first teams and the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team. Porter is a 22-year-old rookie drafted with the No. 32 overall pick in the draft and the son of Steelers legend Joey Porter.

But both of them have made good impressions on Wallace, who was on NFL Network‘s “Good Morning America” this week and discussed what it has been like with his two new teammates.

Wallace — who is in his second season with Pittsburgh — started with Peterson, who was someone Wallace has looked up to for years.

“It’s kind of different when he’s coming into a system where he hasn’t been here before. He’s asking me questions,” Wallace said. “Cam Sutton was that guy for me because he’s just been in the system for so long. Now a lot of guys are looking to me on how to play corner in Pittsburgh and I’ve only been there for over a year. It’s been good. It’s both of us going back and forth asking each other questions. I’m asking them just questions about football and ball and life in general. I just like the way he’s carried himself for years as a professional, as a man off the field. That’s been super great….He’s always looking to grow and learn, which is super impressive cause you can’t really teach a lot to a guy like that who’s seen so much football in his career. So it’s been really, really good.”

Peterson was signed a two-year deal this offseason with the Steelers. He spent the previous two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings.

Porter comes to Pittsburgh after a four-year stint with Penn State, where he was a two-time All-Big Ten third team member and one-time All-Big Ten first team performer.

He was one of two cornerbacks selected in the 2023 NFL Draft by the Steelers along with former Purdue standout Cory Trice.

“Then you have Joey, even Trice and some of the young guys, who just come in and they’re just ready to learn and just ask you so many questions and want to do everything so perfect and have a great day each and every day,” Wallace said. “And I’m like, listen, everybody’s professional here. You have good days and bad days. But it makes you appreciate the game a lot more. I think Pat Pete said a couple weeks ago, it keeps him young. This is me going into my sixth season. I’m like, yeah, man, these guys are hungry. Definitely keeps me motivated. It adds fuel to the fire that we’re bringing in guys that are super talented. They can play really well for us this year.”
