Who were the Florida Gators’ 3 biggest recruiting commitments in June?

Who were the Florida Gators’ 3 biggest recruiting commitments in June?

After a major run in June, the Florida Gators now have 17 commitments in the 2024 class and the No. 3 class ranking from On3. All told, Billy Napier and Co. added 10 new verbals last month.

Today, I’m listing the three I think were the most important pickups — and why.

But first, here’s a list of the 10 commitments from June:

June 12: Mike Williams, OL, Baltimore (Md.) Charles Herbert Flowers: Former South Carolina commit.

June 14: Noel Portnjagin, OL, Schwäbisch Hall (Germany): Three-star recruit. Earned offer at camp.

June 17: Amir Jackson, TE, Portal (Ga.): Nation’s No. 10 tight end.

June 17: Amaris Williams, DL, Clinton (N.C.): On300 member. Beat out Penn State.

June 17: Nasir Johnson, DL, Dublin (Ga.): No. 34 player in Georgia.

June 17: Aaron Chiles, LB, Olney (Md.) Good Counsel: No. 2 player in Maryland.

June 19: Michai Boireau, DL, Fairburn (Ga.) Creekside: No. 88 defensive lineman.

June 19: Marcus Mascoll, OL, Snellville (Ga.) South Gwinnett: No. 42 offensive tackle in the country.

June 19: Jamonta Waller, edge, Picayune Memorial (Miss.): No. 63 recruit nationally.

June 26: Jerrae Hawkins, WR, Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy: On300 member

3 UF commits in Junes we really like

Now, onto my picks ….

No. 1. Waller: To put it mildly, this was a really big pickup. For starters, you can never have enough players who can get after the quarterback. And while Waller isn’t the biggest edge out there, his video shows a skillset and tenacity that suggests he can cause some problems for opposing offenses at the next level. You also have to like the fact the Gators beat out schools such as Auburn and Penn State, who had made Waller a priority. This was an eye-opening win — at a true position of need for an SEC program.

No. 2. Jackson: I’m putting him on my top-three list largely because of his upside. Jackson is listed at 6-foot-5 and 215 pounds, but he has played three spots throughout high school so adding weight hasn’t been easy. That shouldn’t be a problem in college. So we should be looking at a guy in the 6-5/250-pound range within a year or so after his arrival in Gainesville. Also, with Jackson you have to like the fact he’s an all-state basketball player who’s a great rebounder. He’s used to going up high to get the ball — a trait that should serve him well in football.

No. 3: Chiles, Johnson and Mascoll were strongly considered for this final spot. But I’m going with Boireau and I’ll give you two reasons why. For starters, it’s not always about stars. He has only three of them right now. It’s often about who you beat to land a recruit. And to get Boireau, the Gators went toe-to-toe with Georgia — and won. That hasn’t happened a lot in recent years and if the Florida Gators are to have any chance of becoming a top program again it has to occur far more often. So for that alone, the Boireau commitment was huge. Now, combine that with the fact he’s a nose in the 6-foot-5 and 375-pound range with the potential to be a 30-snap force in the middle. He’s not just big, he’s powerful and agile. To me, Boireau is a guy whose ranking could improve with a strong season.

Now … who would be in your top three?
