Who’s hot, who’s not in Miami recruiting: 4 prospects the Hurricanes are hot on, 2 recruits Miami has cooled on

Who’s hot, who’s not in Miami recruiting: 4 prospects the Hurricanes are hot on, 2 recruits Miami has cooled on

“Who’s hot, who’s not” is a quick-hitter intel piece on 2024 under-the-radar Miami prospects the Hurricanes have started zeroing in on and targets Miami has cooled with. Here are some names you need to know that Miami is locking in on following June official visits and a few names the Hurricanes are slowing communication with:

Who’s hot

+++ Deerfield Beach (Fla.) four-star linebacker Elias Rudolph was offered by Miami in May during the evaluation period, but things have moved quickly. Rudolph has the Hurricanes in his top three along with Michigan and Pittsburgh with a commitment coming July 3 and 6:30 p.m. EST, and Miami has made a relentless recruiting push to climb into position to steal the No. 304 prospect away from northern programs. He canceled his Ohio State official visit one day after his Miami official visit wrapped up, and it’s hard not to like where the Hurricanes stand. It seems Miami’s all-hands-on-deck recruiting push over the last month is paying off.

+++ Miami (Fla.) Palmetto three-star receiver Jacory Barney emerged as a serious name to watch in Miami recruitment after he showed out at a Hurricanes’ prospect camp in early June, and Miami has become the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine’s overwhelming favorite to land the No. 418 overall prospect. The Hurricanes have made an aggressive push to become one of Barney’s top schools along with Nebraska and Texas A&M — who he also official visited last month — and took his Miami official visit June 23. CaneSport placed him on commit watch just before his trip to Coral Gables, and although he’s still yet to make his decision, we like where things sit after Miami’s three-week June recruiting push.

+++ Phenix City (Al.) Central three-star safety Red Morgan is another Miami target who emerged over the last few months after landing his offer from the Hurricanes in April. The No. 506 national prospect took his official visit to Coral Gables June 23, and the Hurricanes are sitting high on his radar. Morgan said entering the visit that a decision will come during the season but it may come sooner than expected.

+++ Jacksonville (Fla.) Andrew Jackson three-star offensive lineman Deryc Plazz decommitted from Penn State just weeks after committing to the Nittany Lions, and he scheduled an official visit to Miami within an hour. Miami has pushed hard for him since bringing him down for his official visit, texting, calling and FaceTiming the 6-foot-5, 280-pound lineman daily. He recently said NC State has taken the lead following his most recent official visit, but Miami is still right in the mix.

Who’s not

+++ Things have cooled with Miami (Fla.) Central four-star defensive lineman T.A. Cunningham, who was once seen as a favorite to land in Coral Gables. Penn State received the No. 247 prospect’s only official visit during June as things have been relatively quiet on his recruiting front lately. He does not have any other official visits set.

+++ Miami is no longer communicating with Loganville (Ga.) Grayson four-star tight end Kylan Fox, who canceled his official visit originally set for June 9 in favor of Georgia Tech. Contact steadily decreased later this spring heading into June, and the Hurricanes have exited the picture. Florida State, Colorado, UCF and Georgia Tech are his top four schools heading into his July 4 announcement.
