‘I have my mind made up’ … DB Ricky Knight set to announce decision
After a quiet few weeks, many of the Florida State football team’s top recruiting targets are set to announce their commitments sometime in July. That group includes five-star defensive-back Charles Lester III, three-star wide-receiver Elijah Moore and several others.
One of the first to announce his decision will be three-star defensive back Ricky Knight III, who plans to make his commitment on Saturday, July 1, at 4 p.m. ET
Knight has visited Florida State three times in recent months, including for an official visit. Now he is excited to finally be done with the recruiting process.
“I mean honestly, these coaches understand how hard and stressful the recruiting process can get, so all schools including FSU have been giving me some space,” Knight told Warchant on Friday. “Not saying that we don’t communicate at all, it’s just we don’t communicate as much. … It does feel nice. It takes some stress off of me.”
According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, this recruitment is a Florida State-Miami battle, with the Seminoles holding the current lead.
After his official visit to Florida State, Knight also took an official visit to Miami.
“The visit was fun, and I also learned a few things that I didn’t know about,” Knight said of his trip to Coral Gables. “I’ve been there a few times so nothing really stood out. But I will say that time and time again, the coaches continue to show me love no matter who is on campus visiting.”
When asked if he was still mulling over his decision, Knight said he was done.
“I have my mind made up,” the Palm Beach Gardens standout said.
In past visits, Knight has been very vocal about his love for Florida State. The Seminoles and head coach Mike Norvell were the first school to offer and have stayed on him ever since.
“I still talk to them a lot and our relationship has been a great path ever since the beginning …,” Knight said. “The bond I have with their staff is amazing, plus Tallahassee is a college town. So it’s definitely going to be turnt on game days.”
Knight is the No. 48-ranked cornerback in the country, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, and he has been looking at all aspects of schools when making his decision. That includes strong academics as well as a defense that plays a lot of press-man coverage.
