Mailbag Podcast: What’s the gameplan for the Vols in the Sweet 16? Spring practice updates
It’s gameday for the University of Tennessee as the Volunteers take on the Florida Atlantic University Owls tonight at 9 pm ET in the Big Apple at Madison Square Garden. The winner of the four-nine [seeded] matchup advances on to the Elite Eight on Saturday.
This is the ninth trip to the Sweet 16 for Tennessee in program history and a win tonight would mark only the second-ever trek to the Elite Eight. What’s the gameplan for Rick Barnes and his squad tonight against the 33-win Conference USA champs?
Brent Hubbs, Austin Price, Eric Cain and Grant Ramey will answer that and more spring football questions on this week’s edition of the Volquest Mailbag Podcast. A big thanks to our friends over at Exterior Home Solutions who make this possible. For a free estimate, give them a call at 865-524-5888.
What the Volquest guys are saying….
The crew on a score predictions for Tennessee and FAU…
“I think Kenpom has this as a four-point game, I think for Tennessee. It’s the Sweet 16 and Tennessee should win this game theory, but as soon as you start thinking that this time of the year – trouble seems to happen. I would take Tennessee by 6 or 8 or something.” – Ramey
“I’ll go 60-52 [Tennessee].” – Price
“Yeah, it might come down to stretching it out with some free throws late, but I think this one is going to be a possession-by-possession game in the last four minutes. I think this is a tough matchup because they spread the floor out and do some things that could potentially give Tennessee some problems. They are a little nontraditionally and positionless, right? We have seen some straight-line drives give this team some difficulty.” – Hubbs
The crew on football or basketball recruiting for the end of the month…
“Man, I thought March was going to be a big month but it just doesn’t feel like it’s going to materialize. Here we are with less than 10 days left and it feels like February is going to have some more. If you would have asked me that when we entered February, I would have told you you’re crazy. There’s just a bunch of kids that want to take visits. I’m not saying you can’t get one before the end of the month, but to think you’re getting two in the next nine days? I don’t see it.” – Price
“Basketball-wise, Juke Harris is scheduled to do something relatively soon. Rob has been all over that one. Think he thinks the Vols feel good about that one, but Wake Forest is going to try and make a late push there. Ahmad Nowell, who is the four-star point guard – he’s in Philadelphia and from Germantown, Tenn. Tennessee feels really good about him. They’ve had him on an official visit. Tennessee is the only official visit he’s taken. I don’t think he has a timeline in mind right now, but I think they feel good there. I think it’s just a waiting game on Juke Hariss right now and see what Ahman Nowell does at some point.” – Ramey
