Updating On3 RPM picks for Gamecocks targets

Several On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine picks in favor of the South Carolina Gamecocks have been logged as of late for top targets in the 2024 recruiting class.

The On3 RPM factors in machine learning, expert predictions, social sentiment, visits, and historical trends to predict where prospects may attend college. Expert predictions weigh heavily into the proprietary formula.

Let’s take a closer look at some of my recent picks and the latest on each:

Virginia Beach (Virginia) Green Run wide receiver Keylen Adams

This pick was logged on June 2 with a 65 percent confidence rate.

Since then, the four-star wideout has taken official visits to Tuscaloosa to see Alabama and to Blacksburg to check out Virginia Tech.

He has not yet burned his official visit to Columbia, which has been expected to take place at some point during the 2023 football season. Adams was last on campus at USC on June 2, the day the On3 RPM pick was logged.

Adams’ overall RPM percentage for USC reads at just under 80 percent. For now, we’d lower that and our overall confidence rating, although we aren’t changing the previously-logged prediction just yet.

This one is still in the information-gathering phase, but Virginia Tech has tightened this race. The Alabama visit, strange as it sounds, was not as concerning for the Gamecocks. The trip to Blacksburg seems to have thrown this one a bit into doubt. The returns have been a bit mixed over the last few days.

Adams is planning to announce a choice on July 13.

Meridian (Mississippi) athlete Daniel Hill

Listed as an athlete, this four-star is a running back all the way for Carolina.

It’s anticipated that Hill will make a choice sometime in July, although he’s left the door open for some additional visits during the football season.

My pick in favor of USC was logged – with a 60 percent confidence rate – on April 4. Given that Hill was at that time naming the Gamecocks as his public leader, it was not a stretch.

He’s taken an official visit to Alabama, and USC got one the weekend of June 23. This one is expected to come down to those two programs. South Carolina’s considered to have the edge.

It’s always tough to beat Alabama down the stretch on a prospect that Nick Saban wants. There’s still time to go here, but this pick still looks solid.

Burlington (North Carolina) Cummings wide receiver Jonathan Paylor

This pick was made on June 26, after Paylor’s official visit to South Carolina.

The confidence was set at 60 percent, and that may have been too low. Paylor’s overall RPM reads just under 92 percent for the Gamecocks, and that’s on the strength of a couple other predictions including my colleague Wes Mitchell and TheWolfpacker’s Ethan McDowell.

It looks like Paylor’s going to make his choice late in July. NC State’s been the primary competition, but South Carolina appears to be looking good.

Washington (D.C.) Friendship Academy EDGE Dylan Stewart

Like the aforementioned Hill, this one has the look of a prospect that USC leads for but will have to survive a blue blood down the stretch.

Ohio State has made a major run at Stewart, who’s ranked individually by On3 as the nation’s number one overall prospect.

While there’s been a revolving door of programs that have taken turns near the top for Stewart, South Carolina has consistently been there. Assistant coach Sterling Lucas has drawn him to campus for visits more than any other coach. That persistence has paid off with major staying power.

Stewart’s likely to make a decision this summer. Again, the finish line must be crossed.

My pick in favor of the Gamecocks was made on June 26, after Stewart concluded his official visit to Columbia, with a 55 percent confidence. Let’s stick with that for now.
