In-state OL Mal Waldrep says Auburn and Clemson standing out, will attend Big Cat Weekend

Auburn is working on several players in the state of Alabama for the future. One of the top offensive lineman in-state for 2025 is Mal Waldrep, a 3-star offensive lineman from Phenix City (Ala.) Central.
Waldrep camped at Auburn in June and was clear about where the Tigers stand on his list so far. Along with Auburn, Clemson is sitting at the top as well.
“I’d definitely say Clemson and Auburn are part of my top five, if not top three,” Waldrep said. “They’re really grabbing my attention right now, Clemson and Auburn.”
Waldrep now tells Auburn Live he will be returning to Auburn for Big Cat Weekend, which will take place the first weekend after the July recruiting dead period ends. It will take place on July 29.
“Yes, I will be there,” Waldrep tells Auburn Live.
Waldrep enjoyed camp at Auburn
According to Waldrep, the camp and working with Auburn offensive line coach Jake Thornton made an impression.
“It went well, I really enjoyed working with Coach Thornton and seeing the way he coaches,” Waldrep said. “Overall it was a great camp, got a lot of work done, got a lot better. It was a great day.”
He will be taking a lot of what he learned from Thornton with him into his junior football season.
“It’s pretty awesome because I can take his stuff and put it into what I do throughout the season,” Waldrep said. “What he teaches makes me better automatically. From what I have heard he is one of the better offensive line coaches in the country right now.”
Auburn is standing out on his list right now.
“Auburn, I can come over here whenever I want, I’m 35 minutes away,” Waldrep said. Coach Thornton, all I have to do is just hit him up on the phone and I’m in the door. I love it over here. It is a great place, great atmosphere, fan base is phenomenal, and it has always been that way.”
What about his teammate, 5-star wide receiver Cam Coleman? Does Waldrep have an idea of where Coleman may be leaning with his future decision?
“Cam Coleman is a specimen,” Waldrep said. “He’s definitely one of the top players in the country. He is the number one wide receiver in the country. I love working with him every day, just being around him. I don’t really know where he’s going right now, but he loves it over here (at Auburn), I know he does.”
