Florida Gators’ Billy Napier personally recruiting four-star athlete Derrick McFall

Six schools remain for Tyler (Texas) four-star athlete, Derrick McFall, who trimmed his list on Wednesday evening.

One of the programs that earned a spot on the 2024 prospect’s short list is the University of Florida.

The 5-foot-9.5, 175-pound McFall is being courted to play a mixture of running back and wide receiver for the Gators and plans to take an official visit in the fall. That will mark his first-ever trip to the Swamp.

In addition to the Gators, McFall is heavily considering Alabama, Texas A&M, Texas, Louisville and TCU.

“Their recruiting class, they are doing a great job of recruiting people. They are having a great recruiting class with DJ Lagway, of course. He’s trying to get me there,” McFall told Gators Online.

“Our relationship, it’s been good. He’s big-time, so I let him do what he do. Our relationship has been good for about a year since I got the offer. He’s been telling me the Gators are the move.”

While multiple Gators staff members are courting the do-it-all playmaker, it’s Billy Napier who reaches out to him the most. That is something McFall is extremely grateful for.

“It’s great to have a relationship with the head coach, most definitely,” McFall said. “It’s really a great experience to have a head coach recruiting you because you mainly get most of your recruiting from your position coach. I’ve been mainly getting it from him, so it’s a blessing for sure.”

Florida running backs coach, Jabbar Juluke, makes contact with the Texas native from time to time as well.

“He produces running backs at Florida. It’s a blessing to have him (recruit me),” McFall said. “I bond with them very great. We have a great bond. They are up there on the recruiting side. They recruit very well and my relationship is good with them.”

Two programs are pushing all the right buttons with McFall

When McFall released his top-six schools, the list was not in a specific order. The Aggies are trending heavily in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine though, as multiple picks were submitted in the spring.

However, as for the bonding process, McFall says two of his top contenders are ahead of the curve.

“Relationship-wise, I would say Louisville and A&M. I mean, that top six might change though,” said McFall.

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, McFall is the No. 15 athlete and No. 343 prospect overall in the 2024 class.
