Blue Chips: Father of Top 100 CB Jameer Grimsley talks Michigan official visit
I recently caught up with Jimmy Grimsley, father of Top 100 Tampa (Fla.) Catholic cornerback Jameer Grimsley, to get his thoughts on Michigan and their weekend official visit.
Here are some highlights from the interview.
On his overall thoughts on the official visit:
“I thought it was a really good visit, overall. I thought it was very productive. Some of the highlights were getting to meet Coach (Jim) Harbaugh and Coach (Clink) in-person. That was really good. Also, getting to tour the stadium. The Big House was larger than I thought. Touring the facilities. Those were some of the highlights for me.”
On Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh:
“It was a great experience. He’s genuine. He seemed down to earth. I like how he felt about my son. It was an overall good experience meeting him.”
On lead recruiter Steve Clinkscale and the rest of the staff:
“They seem very interested in my son. They seem like they have his best interests in mind. They’re really recruiting him hard. Obviously, they want to use him on the outside. Coach Clink seemed like he would be really supportive. He wants to develop him not only as a football player but as a man. He wants to be that parent away from home and treat him like his own son. He’s fully interested in his success and how he can help get him to the next level.”
On which presentations moved the needle:
“I would say the strength and conditioning presentation. I thought that was very well-presented. Coach Herb (Ben Herbert) really impressed me. I really liked his knowledge and the way he does things. He pays attention to detail and keeps his athletes on the field. I like the way he goes about his business. He seemed really knowledgeable.”
On what stands out about Michigan following the visit:
“I just like the way the program is headed. They seem to be trending in an upward direction. I like the fact that they are competing for conference championships. They are winning and being successful right now. It seems like they have good momentum. Everybody is one the same page and working towards the same goal, which is winning a national championship. I like the way everybody made us feel at home. It’s definitely a nice program and a nice school.”
On how Jameer would fit in at Michigan:
“I can see him thriving. For a lack of better words, I could see him thriving and being successful.”
