4-Star LB Kris Jones is ‘getting closer’ to a decision

After official visits to Florida, Georgia and Michigan State in June, Kristopher Jones is taking a deep breath, collecting his thoughts and now focused on making a decision before his senior season.

The four-star linebacker out of Fairfax (Va.) is still considering Penn State along with the Gators, Bulldogs and Spartans.

“I am still thinking about those four schools right now,” Jones told On3. “I am working to have a decision around late July or early August, so I will keep talking to coaches from these schools, talking it out with my parents, then choose one.

“It is pretty close between the four schools, but I am getting closer to a decision. At this time, coming off these visits, there is no real order. I like all four and will try to figure everything out next month.”

The No. 124 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking is looking for the right fit in the defensive scheme, the education and a place that feels like home. Jones didn’t take an official visit to Penn State, but he has visited Happy Valley four times. Each visit he took was important.

“The visits will play a big part in my decision. When you are on visits, you are around players and people that play on these teams, so that really gives you an idea of how the place is.

“Now it is time to think about those visits, think about the feeling I had at each school and make my decision.”

FLORIDA: “Florida is a school I have visited three or four times, so I have a good idea about them. The way the people are at Florida makes them stand out. Not just the coaches, but the recruiting staff, are great people. They have treated me and my family well, so that, and how I fit into their defense has them in my top four. It is not just the coaches recruiting me for Florida either. I hear from Adarius Hayes and DJ Lagway too.”

GEORGIA: “Georgia is just Georgia. The development there is crazy. What Georgia is doing with their player development has always had my attention. Not only that, but I think Coach Glenn Schumann is one of the best linebacker coaches in the country too.”

MICHIGAN STATE: “My visit to Michigan State was my only visit there and it showed me a lot. Jordan Hall was my host on my official visit, and he is where I am from, so he told me a lot about Michigan State. He gave me the ins and outs of the program. I have been talking with their coaches for a long time too. It is a great place and a great program.”

PENN STATE: “I really like the defensive scheme and the coaching staff at Penn State. It also helps that I have family on that staff with my cousin, Coach Kenny Sanders, coaching there. I have been to Penn State a lot, so I know a lot about them and me not taking an official visit there didn’t hurt their chances. Penn State has always been high on my list.”
