Buffalo Bills select Jackson Hawes in fifth round of 2025 NFL Draft

The Buffalo Bills selected Georgia Tech tight end Jackson Hawes in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Hawes is in the NFL after spending six seasons in college football.

Jackson Hawes began his college career in 2019 at Yale. He did not see any action during the 2019 season, and the team did not play in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, Hawes played in all 10 games as a reserve and caught 13 passes for 135 yards and one touchdown. The following year, Hawes started in all 10 games and caught 13 passes for 139 yards and four touchdowns. He was named to the All-Ivy League Second Team for his work on the field.

In 2023, Hawes was named to the All-Ivy League Second Team again after catching nine passes for 97 yards and one touchdown in nine games with eight starts. He transferred to Georgia Tech last year and caught 16 passes for 195 yards in 12 games with 10 starts.

“I want to prove that I can bring unique characteristics to their team,” Hawes told The Draft Network in January. “I’m a guy who can help our offense thrive from a variety of formations and looks. I can block any position on the field. I can run good routes and make plays.” Hawes played high school football at Highland in Salt Lake City, Utah. There was no ranking for him, but he was part of the 2019 class.

What NFL Draft analysts are saying about Jackson Hawes

Lance Zierlein of NFL.com gave an analysis of Hawes for his draft profile. He was projected to be selected in the fifth or sixth round, and Zerlein said that Hawes will need to be physical consistently to make an impact in the NFL.

“Hawes is a thump-and-drive tight end with the technique and fire to help make a difference in the run game as both a lead/move blocker and at the point of attack,” Zierlein wrote. “Hawes proved he could move from the Ivy League to the ACC and fit right in despite the step up in competition. There are correctable areas as a run blocker but his demeanor and size make it easier to project his move to the NFL in that area. He’s limited as a route runner and pass catcher, so a roster spot will need to be secured with a steady diet of physicality. Hawes has Day 3 value with a chance to earn NFL snaps.”
