USC Recruiting Surging in June, Who’s Next?

Three weeks ago Lincoln Riley and the Trojans hosted the first 12 official visitors of June (2-4). There are already seven commitments from that weekend and that number’s expected to potentially increase by as many as three more. It’ll be challenging to get 10 of the 12, but we’ll find out in the near future.
Four-Star Safety Jarvis Boatwright, 4-Star CB Dakoda Fields, 4-Star OL Manasse Itete, 3-Star OL Hayden Treter, 4-Star TE Walter Matthews, 4-Star OLB Elijah Newby, 4-Star Edge Kameryn Fountain all committed within a few weeks of their USC official visits. That’s an exceptionally impressive number.
There have also been three verbal commitments from the June 16-18 official visit weekend. Marcelles Williams announced last Sunday, Jason Zandamela announced his pledge a few days later and Ryan Pellum announced his USC commitment on Monday afternoon.
Who’s next for the Trojans?
Although there are still three guys from the June 2-4 weekend who are uncommitted, none are currently scheduled to announce school choices. Zabien Brown, Taylor Tatum and Isaiah Garcia should announce at some point in July.
Garcia told WeAreSC the Trojans are among his Top 2 schools. Brown is down the USC and Alabama. Tatum’s choosing between USC football and OU baseball, which is an extremely unique situation.
But several other June official visitors are schedule to announce their schools choice this week. Safety Marquis Gallegos (6/27), WR Dre’lon Miller (6/29), DT Deyvid Palepale (7/1) and CB Braylon Conley (6/30) all announce their commitments this week.
Most Likely AND Next: Marquis Gallegos – Sierra Canyon
One of the top defensive back targets for USC in the 2024 cycle has made a major announcement last week. West Hills (CA) Chaminade High four-star safety Marquis Gallegos announced a commitment date of June 27.
The 6-foot-1, 180 pounder also announced a top-5 group. He is down to USC and Oregon.
Gallegos ranks as the No. 227 player in the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also tabs in as the No. 18 safety and the No. 19 player in the state of California.
On3 ranks Gallegos higher than the rest of the industry, tabbing him as the No. 161 overall prospect and No. 3 safety in the 2024 class.
Last weekend Gallegos took his USC offices visit and he was scheduled to be at Oregon this weekend. Gallegos informed WeAreSC last night that he’s not taking the Oregon Official.
The announcement date for Gallegos comes a day after Ryan Pellum announced his USC commitment on Monday June 26.
Most likely to follow Gallegos, Plus Wildcards
After the Gallegos, the prospects we’ve submitted predictions for and have the most confidence in committing to USC are, Conley and Palepale. If Arlington (TX) OL Makai Saina announces this week, we’ll add him to that list.
The two wildcards out there for the Trojans are WR Dre’lon Miller and LB Tyanthony Smith. Both have said they plan to attend the same school and they live less than 30 minutes from each other….in East Texas. One USC source said they were nervous about the Aggies, their NIL Collectives and the Aggie Network.
Grabbing kids like Miller and Smith from Southeast Texas is challenging without A&M pursuing, but the Aggies are coming hard for both. Miller’s interest in Texas A&M was mild back in May, so we’ll see if they made up enough ground to gain a commitment from these two.
One Texas source said this earlier that Texas A&M is definitely in the race now for Miller. They already were with Smith. He added A&M is close to home and the kids in their region are trending to A&M.
WeAreSC will have a follow up article in the late morning afternoon on Tuesday.
