How much will Penn State first-round NFL Draft picks Abdul Carter and Tyler Warren make on their rookie deals?

How much will Penn State first-round NFL Draft picks Abdul Carter and Tyler Warren make on their rookie deals?

Penn State put two players into the first round of the NFL Draft for the second time in as many years on Thursday night. The New York Giants took Abdul Carter with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 pro selection process. And, the Indianapolis Colts took Tyler Warren at No. 14. The former went exactly where the mock draft media thought he would. The latter slipped in the mind of some, but the AFC South franchise was a likely landing spot all along for the Virginia native. Both have now realized their dreams. And, a big payday is coming along with it.

According to estimates from salary cap analysis websites Spotrac and Over The Cap, Carter’s rookie deal will be worth somewhere between $39.9 and $45.25 million over four years. The sites are mostly in agreement that the signing bonus will amount to around $29.5 million. Once signed, the contract will be fully guaranteed. And, the Giants will have the choice of picking up Carter’s fifth-year option in 2029.

“Really excited about adding another pass rusher to the organization,” Giants general manager Joe Schoen said per the team’s official website. “Great kid. We spent a lot of time with him, been in constant communication with him. I know you guys asked last time about the foot. We feel good about the foot, where he is. He’s been running, been working out, so we’re not really concerned with that at this point. But again, we’re just excited to add a really good football player to the organization who’s really going to help our defense moving forward.”

Warren’s rookie deal will net him around $20.9 million, both sites say. His signing bonus will be in the range of $11.8 million. And, like Carter’s deal, it is fully guaranteed, and the Colts will have the fifth-year option choice in 2029.

“The prototype the Colts wanted to find at the tight end position crystallized during the draft process,” Indianapolis Star Colts beat writer Joel A. Erickson writes in giving the team an A grade for taking Warren at No. 14.

“After Indianapolis head coach Shane Steichen briefly talked about getting the type of tight end who could stretch teams down the middle of the field at the NFL scouting combine, the team’s desires had changed. Indianapolis has a tight end room full of specialists; the Colts wanted a player who could impact the game as both a blocker and receiver.”

The 2025 NFL Draft continues Friday with Rounds 2-3. The first pick will be made just after 6 p.m. ET.
