Tulsa transfer forward Jared Garcia commits to Nebraska basketball

With one open roster spot remaining for the 2025-26 season, Nebraska wanted to add size, athleticism, and experience to its frontcourt.

Head coach Fred Hoiberg and his staff landed on Tulsa transfer forward Jared Garcia, who has committed to the Huskers on Thursday.

A 6-foot-9, 245-pound senior from Houston, Texas, Garcia only played 17 games for the Golden Hurricane after missing time with knee injuries. He averaged 9.6 points and 4.2 rebounds, including a season-high 22 points on 5-of-6 shooting from 3-point range against Wichita State.

Garcia has played four college seasons at various stops, including a year at a junior college. He received an additional year of eligibility after the NCAA granted temporary waivers for student-athletes who had previously competed at non-NCAA institutions.

Garcia began his college career at Charlotte and then spent a season at Salt Lake Community College before transferring to Tulsa. He started all 31 games for the Hurricane in 2023-24, averaging 9.4 ppg and a team-high 6.0 rpg while shooting 32.5% from three.

However, Garcia then underwent offseason surgeries on both knees, which forced him to miss the first half of last season. He returned to action after a nearly 11-month layoff on Jan. 12 and posted 11 points and three rebounds over 13 minutes in a 69-63 win over Charlotte.

Garcia capped the year by dropping 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting in a win over Temple in the first round of the American Athletic Conference Tournament.
