2025 NFL Draft: Adam Schefter shares major update on Shedeur Sanders interest

As the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft gets closer, Shedeur Sanders’ suitors are becoming clearer. ESPN’s Adam Schefter had a major update on interest in the former Colorado quarterback, including which teams are likely out.
Schefter said the New York Giants and New Orleans Saints are “not expected” to select Sanders in the Top 10 of the draft. That means the spotlight will shift to the Pittsburgh Steelers, who hosted Sanders for a visit – and he spoke highly of the experience.
Schefter noted the Steelers have a big decision to make at No. 21 overall. They could select Sanders and end the conversation about where he’ll get drafted. If they pass, though, things get even more interesting.
“We are all waiting to see where the quarterbacks go tonight, including Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders,” Schefter said on College GameDay. “He’s not expected to go No. 3 to the New York Giants. He’s not expected to go No. 9 to the New Orleans Saints. The first real decision seems to belong to the Pittsburgh Steelers at No. 21.
“The question becomes then is, do the Steelers make that move and make that pick? Or do they pass on Shedeur? And if they pass on Shedeur Sanders, where does he go in the second round of the draft? One of the biggest storylines heading into tonight.”
Sanders put together a standout senior season at Colorado in 2024, leading the nation with a 74% completion percentage. He also totaled 4,134 passing yards and 37 touchdowns while leading the Buffaloes to a bowl game as part of an impressive turnaround under his father, Deion.
The Giants have options if they decide to take a quarterback at some point during this weekend’s draft. They could do so at No. 3 overall, or they could with the No. 34 overall selection in the second round. That’s where ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. projected New York to take Jalen Milroe out of Alabama in his Mock Draft 4.0 – his last before Draft Day.
As for the Steelers, they’re squarely in the driver’s seat to land Aaron Rodgers in free agency, although he still has not made a decision. They hosted Sanders for a visit, and he spoke positively about the experience, which is why he could be an option at No. 21 overall.
Shedeur Sanders’ NFL future will be perhaps the biggest storyline in Thursday’s first round. The 2025 NFL Draft gets underway at 8 p.m. ET.
