Sophomore wide receiver Mazeo Bennett missed the game on Friday night. Beamer, though, isn’t worried about the young pass-catcher. “Mazeo wanted to [play]; he practiced yesterday,” said the Gamecock head coach. “He kind of tweaked his leg a little bit. He really wanted to go and was mad that he couldn’t.” Bennett projects to be a major contributor in South Carolina’s wide receiver room this fall.
All-SEC defensive back Jalon Kilgore was another major piece who missed the spring game. According to his head coach, Kilgore was dealing with “a little bit of a lower-body injury,” but he feels like he could have played if this were a real game week. “I don’t want to go into summer and [have him] tweak a lower-leg injury anymore.”
Offensive linemen Cason Henry and Nick Sharpe both have missed time recently, and neither played in the spring game. However, Beamer said the veteran blockers “will be fine.” Henry has been dealing with a “lower-body injury,” while Sharpe was using a scooter to get around during Gamecock Walk. Henry was the team’s starter at right tackle a year ago, and Sharpe was competing for a starting gig on the interior of USC’s line.

Missouri transfer EDGE Jaylen Brown injured his knee this spring, and Beamer didn’t provide a major update on his status. “We’ll see as we come out of spring into the summer what his status will be,” he explained. “We’ll see how Jaylen progresses going into the summer,” he added. Several players, including Brown, have been vying for the starting defensive end spot opposite Freshman All-American Dylan Stewart.
Beamer reiterated on Friday that veteran reserve offensive lineman Ryan Brubaker has a long-term injury. Said the Gamecock headman, “Ryan Brubaker would be the only one really that I’d say is doubtful for the entire season.” The fourth-year player was the team’s backup center in 2024 and was competing for a spot in the two-deep again before his injury.
