Ra’Shaad Samples: “This group is dynamic.”

Oregon running backs coach, associate head coach Ra’Shaad Samples met with the media for the first time this Spring on Tuesday. Samples was targeted by the Dallas Cowboys this offseason for a role on their staff but elected to stay at Oregon. He talked about his decision to stay and what kept him in Eugene.
Oregon’s running back room is incredibly deep. Samples talked about all of those talented backs and joked about adding a second ball to the games to get all of his guys carries.
You can read about all of that and more below. Or watch the full video included at the bottom.

On Makhi Hughes:
“Just the physical runner he is. His contact balance. He’s a striker in pass pro. And obviously his productivity. Every day he’s getting more and more comfortable with the playbook.”
On Dallas Interest:
“It’s always awesome to be wanted and in high regard. Dallas is my hometown, that’s why it was in consideration. At the end of the day my heart was at Oregon. I love being here, coaching my guys. I feel like this is the best place for my career. I want to be a head coach one day. Learning under Dan, taking me under his wing. Just being around him is valuable experience I won’t get anywhere else.”
On RB Room:
“This group is dynamic. You got so many dynamic runners that are dynamic for a reason. You can just go down the line with every guy. They all compliment each other. It’s probably one of the more talented running back rooms I’ve ever been a part of.”
On Dink Riggs:
“He’s just grown up. He’s comfortable in the offense. It’s been consistent. He shows up every day. He’s a natura runner. He makes it look really easy.”
On RB Rotation:
“I’m gonna try to figure out if I can call the NCAA and play with 2 footballs. It’s a good problem to have. I think you can expect multiple guys to play a little bit more.”
On Relationship w/ Ross Douglas:
“We went to HS together. Elite-11. A couple camps together. When I got the job for the Rams he texted me I think I’m the youngest coach in the league, you’re the 2nd youngest coach in the league. I looked up our birthdays and mine is 7 days before his so I called him back and let him know he was wrong. We go way back. We’ve talked on the phone a lot. When he was interviewing we talked and he’s like Samp I gotta get there with you, we gotta work together.”
