Report: OU basketball about to get father-son combination

Report: OU basketball about to get father-son combination

OU basketball about to get a two-for-one combination from the East coast? Sure sounds like head coach Porter Moser has been able to alleviate a lot of concerns with one move.

OU entered Monday with several roster spots open and an assistant coach opening. You should be able to check off a roster and coach spot all at once.

Multiple sources confirmed to SoonerScoop over the weekend that St. Joseph’s associate head coach Justin Scott was the favorite to be named the assistant coach.

Scott’s step-son, Xzayvier Brown, was a sophomore for the Hawks last season and averaged 17.6 points per game, 5.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.5 steals and shot 42% from the field.

CBS’ Jon Rothstein reported Monday afternoon, going one step further, saying it’s all but a done deal for Scott and Brown to be Sooners. Brown officially entered the transfer portal earlier Monday afternoon.

Sources: Oklahoma’s Porter Moser is expected to hire St. Joe’s Associate HC Justin Scott as an assistant.

The expectation is that Xzayvier Brown — who entered the transfer portal today — will follow Scott to Norman.

Brown averaged 17.6 PPG, 5.2 RPG, and 4.3 APG for St. Joe’s.

Listed at 6-foot-2 and 175 pounds, Brown scored 20 or more points in each of the final four games, getting stronger as the season wore on.

Brown would be the third portal addition for the Sooners. OU is in strong position to keep adding as well in the days to come. And now Moser has zero assistant coach openings to fill.

OU transfer portal additions

Nijel Pack (Miami, G, 1 season)

6-0, 185

13.9 points per game, 4.3 assists, 3.0 rebounds

Pack only played nine games last season for the Hurricanes. His departure from Kansas State to Miami was one of the benchmark moments in the portal/NIL. Pack was down to four schools with OU, KSU, Kansas and Indiana. He was leading the team in scoring averaging 13.9 points per game before injuring his foot Dec. 10 against Tennessee, and is expected to seek a medical hardship waiver to play his sixth season in college. In 122 games, he has knocked down 313 3-pointers while shooting just above 40 percent. Two in one day? That’s how you get on the transfer portal board.

Tae Davis (Notre Dame, PF, 1 season)

15.1 points per game, 5.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 48% FGs

6-9, 208

A Power 4 transfer? Check. A big man Power 4 transfer? Oh yea, there was no way OU wasn’t going to at least make its pitch. Davis showed up at OU last Monday, and it keeps trending in the right direction. He started his career at Seton Hall and is someone who has shown the steady development and improvement with every season. OU has plenty of spots to fill in the frontcourt, and Davis is a tremendous starting point.
