Chima Chineke impressed by Iowa official visit

Defensive end Chima Chineke is back home in Texas tonight after making an official visit with the Iowa Hawkeyes over the weekend. For the 6-foot-5, 230-pound Plano native, who last visited Iowa City in March, it was a good opportunity to get an in-depth look at the Iowa football program and all that it has to offer.
“What mainly stood out to me was how great the educational opportunities were along with the development plans and growing with some of the other recruits on the other visit,” Chineke told HawkeyeReport.com. “The facilities are great, the strength and conditioning are top tier, and it’s a great place to develop and become an NFL player.”
The trip also gave Chineke a chance to spend more time with the current players at Iowa and see what campus life is like on a day to day basis.
“My host was Jay Higgins,” said Chineke. “I think I fit in pretty well. We all like what the program has to offer on many levels.”
Chineke was also able to sit down and talk with the Iowa coaching staff throughout the weekend and was impressed how their message was about more than just football.
“I spent most of my time with Coach Woods, Coach Bell, and Coach Ferentz,” Chineke said. “They really talked about them as people and how they see students more than just athletes. Also, how they see me and how I’m what their program is looking for in a person and an athlete.”
Chineke, who had 35 tackles and 6.5 sacks last season at Plano East, has now taken official visits to Iowa, Texas Tech, Kansas, and Vanderbilt this month. Other scholarship offers for the three-star prospect include Oklahoma State, Oregon State, Houston, Memphis, and Tulsa, among others.
With the July dead period approaching, Chineke plans to hit the pause button and re-evaluate things before making his next move with the recruiting process.
“I’m going to take the next few weeks to soak it all in and I’ll announce my decision around August,” said Chineke.
