Touted freshman WR Dallas Wilson turns heads with record-setting performance

GAINESVILLE, FLORIDA — After watching true freshman wide receiver Dallas Wilson deliver a record-setting performance at Florida’s Orange & Blue Game, Gators head coach Billy Napier summed up what many at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium probably were thinking on Saturday.
“I’d say that’s what a 5-star looks like,” Napier said.
While it’s important to remember it was only a spring game, Wilson—a 6-foot-3, 209-pound early enrollee from Tampa Bay Tech (Fla.)—turned heads with his terrific plays and remarkable statistics. He finished with 10 receptions for 195 yards and two touchdowns. His 10 catches set a new Orange & Blue Game record, while his 195 receiving yards tied the school record for a spring game. His longest reception went for 31 yards, and notably, 51 of his yards Saturday came after the catch.
“I think the ball went in his direction today,” Napier noted. “I think he was able to take advantage of the matchups and situations and made some plays. Not all those were routine. I thought some of those were impressive. He’s a big, physical player.”
Dallas Wilson was a top Florida Gators signee
Napier added that Wilson has stood out since arriving in Gainesville in late January as the No. 41 overall recruit nationally for the 2025 class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. His combination of toughness and football IQ has made an early impression on the coaching staff.
“Obviously you don’t produce like that today unless you’ve really been working hard,” Napier said. “He’s had a good offseason and when given opportunities today I thought he took full advantage of it. We’ve seen a lot of that in practice.”
And what did Harrison Bailey, Wilson’s quarterback on Saturday, think of the freshman’s performance? As expected, the Louisville transfer was just as impressed as the rest of the crowd.
“I was stoked to have Dallas when they announced the teams, and I told him as soon as they put it up on the screen that he was going to have 10-plus catches, 200-plus,” Bailey said. “I was going to find a way to get him the ball. That’s one of the jobs of a quarterback, getting the play-makers the ball and let them make plays.”
