NC State Newsstand: Pack wrestling announces Zach Redding, first transfer portal addition

NC State wrestling needed to reload its roster going into the 2025-26 season. The Wolfpack entered the offseason looking to find starters at 133, 157, 165 and 197, while also creating depth on the rest of the team’s lineup.

And coach Pat Popolizio acquired the team’s first transfer portal addition through Iowa State 141-pounder Zach Redding, the program announced Thursday. The two-time NCAA qualifier has one year of eligibility remaining.

“We are excited to have Zach added to our roster,” Popolizio said. “I’ve watched him since high school, he’s a New York native, experienced competitor, and he believes in what NC State stands for. He will be a great addition alongside the returning guys for next year, increasing the already growing excitement around our team in the coming season.”

The Manorville, N.Y., native logged 44 wins in five seasons at Iowa State. He earned second place in the 2023 Big Ten Championships, while he also logged a third-place finish at the 2021 event.

Before his collegiate career, Redding was a two-time New York High School State champion to check in as the No. 119 overall recruit in the 2020 class. He was the No. 18 wrestler at 126 pounds as he entered the college ranks.

Quote of the day

Chicago Sky GM Jeff Pagliocca raved about NC State guard Saniya Rivers going into Monday’s WNBA Draft.

“[She] may be the best overall athlete in the draft, and she’s got a lot of length, too,” Pagliocca said. “She’s proven she can guard multiple positions, which always matters in our league. With length, you can cause some problems with point guards and wings. You’ve got to pay attention to players like that.”
