USC’s Wesley Yates commits to transfer to Washington

USC’s Wesley Yates has committed to Washington out of the NCAA Transfer Portal per On3’s Joe Tipton.
Yates just finished his redshirt freshman season with the Trojans. He, in 33 games with 24 starts made, averaged 14.1 points (47.8% FG, 43.9% 3PT), 2.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.2 steals.
That’s after Yates spent his first year in college at Washington. He didn’t appear for the Huskies due to a foot injury before transferring. The Huskies were reportedly again an option for him in the portal, in part with his past with the program as well as his family’s as a cousin to Quincy Pondexter.
Yates, a native of Beaumont, Texas, played his high school basketball at Beaumont United. He was the No. 50 overall recruit there as a four-star in the 2023 cycle. He also rated as the No. 12 SG in the class and the No. 3 player out of the state after only Ron Holland and Dink Pate, who both went on to play on the final team for G-League Ignite. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Now, Yates is the No. 41 overall transfer and the No. 10 SG in the portal. That’s according to the latest update to On3’s 2025 Top Transfer Portal Players.
