Former Indiana QB Kurtis Rourke provides injury update at Colts Local Pro Day

Indiana football quarterback Kurtis Rourke is gearing up for his professional career while also continuing to rehab from his ACL surgery that he had after the conclusion of the 2024 Indiana football season.

He is coming off a season where he threw 3,042 yards with 29 touchdowns and five interceptions leading the Hoosiers to a 11-2 record and College Football Playoff berth while playing with a ton ACL.

The Indianapolis Colts had their “local pro day” this past Tuesday where Kurtis Rourke was in attendance. Although he did not participate, he was able to provide a very positive update on his health status ahead of the NFL Draft later this month.

“Not throwing today,” said Kurtis Rourke when speaking to the media on Tuesday. “Just now got cleared to get some full reps going this week. I just didn’t want to rush it, but I am back to throwing now.”

“Feeling great, feeling great,” Rourke added. “Started jogging and throwing again so just feeling confident that I will be back sooner than later.”

While he did not do any physical drills, Rourke is still being able to gain a lot of knowledge while being at the NFL Combine and pro days like the one in Indianapolis.

“Just soak up as much as I can,” Rourke said. “Understand the environment and know what it’s like to be in this position. Just talking to all the coaches, trying to understand and get a feel for who they are and the coaching style they have.”

Rourke, who is expected to be drafted at some point during the NFL Draft, has been at a disadvantage compared to the other quarterbacks that have been able to participate in active drills. The good thing for Rourke is that NFL scouts have seen what he can do on the field based off what he showed for Indiana football the past season. Going into the College Football Playoff, he led the nation in passing efficiency (181.4) and led the Big Ten in passing touchdowns (27) and fewest interceptions (4).

He put up those numbers all while playing on a torn ACL and coming back from a mid-season thumb injury, which he also had surgery on. That alone shows his toughness as a player for him to put up those numbers and lead a team to the College Football Playoff all while not fully healthy.

“The best thing you can do is to listen to your body, said Kurtis Rourke. “Throughout the season, I was grateful enough to be able to play through a lot of soreness and injuries. I’m just happy that I didn’t get an MRI until after the season. I was able to play and get that tape on film.”

The NFL Draft is set to start on Thursday, April 24th and run through Saturday, April 26th. The draft takes place in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
