Report: Augusta National asks Jason Day to ‘tone down’ Masters outfits after 2024 controversy

Report: Augusta National asks Jason Day to ‘tone down’ Masters outfits after 2024 controversy

Jason Day‘s outfits will be significantly toned down at this year’s Masters at Augusta National Golf Club. Last year, Day’s Malbon fit included a bold sweater vest and baggy parachute pants which sparked headlines and discussion on social media.

In an effort to avoid that this time around, Augusta National asked Day to see his scripting for this year’s tournament, which begins Thursday. Day made the reveal during an appearance on the “Dan on Golf” show.

“If they would have let us do what we first put the scripting through to them, it would have been a lot crazier than last year, but you know it’ll be toned down, just because they have a little bit more, they asked to see the scripting before,” Day said. “They never asked to see scripting of mine because I’ve always been pretty neutral and down the middle, and this year they asked because obviously what happened last year.”

Day, 37, finished T30 in last year’s Masters. But the only thing anyone wanted to talk about was his look created by lifestyle brand Malbon. Augusta National, in particular, took issue with the sweater he wore during Friday’s round. They asked Day to remove it, which he did.

“Respectfully, you do that because it’s all about the tournament here, and I understand that. I respect the tournament. That’s what we’re here to do is try and play and win the green jacket,” Day said, via Golf.com.

Day is searching for his first Masters victory and second career major triumph. The 2011 runner-up at Augusta National, Day last won on the PGA Tour in May 2023. Day has two top 10 finishes this season, finishing T3 at The American Express in January and T8 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational last month.
