Gavin Hoffman enjoys Iowa official visit

Tight end Gavin Hoffman is on his way back home after an official visit with the Iowa Hawkeyes this weekend. For the 6-foot-5, 220-pound Kansas native, who received an offer from Iowa earlier this month, it was a good opportunity to learn more about the Hawkeye football program.
“The visit was great,” Hoffman told HawkeyeReport.com. “Meeting all the coaching staff was cool and really seeing the campus was awesome to get a feel.”
Hoffman, who last visited Iowa City in April, was able to spend more time with the current players this time around to see how he might fit in with the Hawkeye football program.
“My host was Cooper DeJean,” said Hoffman. “I really like the vibe of all the players there and think it’s a very competitive environment.”
Coaching wise, Hoffman spent a lot of time with Iowa tight ends coach Abdul Hodge, who made it clear he is still a top priority for the Hawkeyes.
“I was with Coach Hodge for the most part, but was really around the whole staff,” Hoffman said. “Their message was all about how I fit in their offense and just the opportunities here at Iowa with the past tight ends.”
As a junior, Hoffman put up big numbers at Blue Valley Northwest with 39 catches for 713 yards and 11 touchdowns. This summer on the camp circuit, he posted a 4.56 forty and a 40″ vertical at 6-foot-5 and 220 pounds, which quickly led to more college interest.
A three-star prospect with an On3 Industry Ranking of 88.0, Hoffman currently holds scholarship offers from Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, Arizona State, Auburn, Tennessee, Arkansas, Illinois, Purdue, Texas Tech, and Marshall, among others.
This month, he has taken official visits to Iowa, Missouri, and Arizona State, and hopes to make a decision soon.
“I will be committing very soon,” said Hoffman.
