Georgia lands massive nose guard Nnamdi Ogboko

Georgia has the No. 1 class for the 2024 cycle and Kirby Smart is showing no signs of letting up. The Bulldogs landed another defensive lineman on Sunday and this time it’s massivie nose guard Nnamdi Ogboko.

The South Garner (Garner, N.C.) product committed to the Bulldogs over offers from Florida, South Carolina, Rurgers, and North Carolina State.

Ogboko gave his pledge to Georgia while on his official visit. The Bulldogs had him in town for the final couple of days before the NCAA-mandated dead period that will take up the rest of June and most of July. It was Ogboko’s second known visit to the Classic City. The first came in April.

According to DawgsHQ’s Rusty Mansell, Ogboko measured in at 6-foot-4 on his official visit to UGA. He also tipped the scales at 340 pounds with 34-inch arms. He is the third defensive line commitment for Georgia in the current class, joining four-star prospects Justin Greene (Georgia) and Jordan Thomas (New Jersey). Ogboko is the Bulldogs No. 21 commitment overall.

According to the On3 Industry-ranking, a weighted average that takes into account the ratings from all four recruiting coverage outlets, Ogboko is a three-star prospect. He’s ranked as the nation’s No. 1,055 overall prospect and No. 100 defensive lineman. He’s the No. 34 player in North Carolina.

Where Georgia stands on the defensive line overall

Georgia inked two defensive linemen in the 2023 class — Jordan Hall and Jamaal Jarrett. It signed four defensive linemen in the 2022 class but two of them have already transferred.

Both Shone Washington and Bear Alexander transferred out of the program this spring. Washington left the team prior to the start of spring drills while Alexander entered the portal the day of the Bulldogs’ annual G-Day spring scrimmage.

With Georgia, at this point, netting just four defensive linemen in two classes due to the transfers, the plan is to take at least five in the current cycle. Washington’s exit left the Bulldogs with just one nose tackle, Jarrett, in the past two cycles. Both Hall and Jarrett were with the team this spring.

Georgia defensive line coach Tray Scott led the charge in landing Ogboko, who became a bigger priority for the Bulldogs after last weekend. That’s when Creekside defensive lineman Michai Boireau, despite a late charge from UGA, committed to his long-time favorite, Florida.
