Mike Edwards is reuniting with the Kansas City Chiefs

How about some Cats in the NFL news to break all this transfer portal drama up? According to the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, former Kentucky safety Mike Edwards is signing a one-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs, the team he won a Super Bowl ring with in 2023.
Edwards returns to Kansas City after stints with the Buffalo Bills and Tampa Bay Bucaneers (the team that drafted him in 2019). During his season with Kansas City, he played in all 17 games, recording 51 tackles, two for loss, one sack, one interception, and two fumble recoveries. He returned one of those fumbles 97 yards for a touchdown, the highlight of his pro career thus far.
This will be Edwards’ seventh season in the pros. He was drafted in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Bucaneers and spent four seasons with the squad, winning his first Super Bowl ring in 2020. He won his second with the Chiefs in 2023 and, after becoming a free agent last year, split the 2024 season between Buffalo and Tampa Bay. So far in his career, he has played in 83 games, starting 30, and totaled 247 tackles, eight interceptions, four touchdowns, and three sacks.
Chiefs lobbying to play on Christmas every year
We may get to see Edwards play on Christmas. The Athletic is reporting that the Chiefs have asked to be a permanent fixture in the NFL’s Christmas Day games after playing on the holiday the past two seasons. The NFL has already announced a three-game lineup for Christmas in 2025, with two games airing on Netflix and another on Amazon Prime. The teams have yet to be announced, but given the ratings the Chiefs vs. the Steelers broadcast drew last Christmas (24.1 million viewers), Kansas City is a sure bet to be one of them.
According to The Athletic, the Chiefs are also the frontrunners to play the Los Angeles Chargers in São Paulo, Brazil on Friday, Sept. 2, the NFL’s second-ever game in South America. Sounds like a great time to join the roster.
