Zay Mincey says Miami Hurricanes “made me feel like a priority” on official visit, and it’s a five-team battle

Zay Mincey says Miami Hurricanes “made me feel like a priority” on official visit, and it’s a five-team battle

Daytona Beach (Fla.) Mainland High School 4-star CB Zay Mincey came into his Miami official visit this weekend with the Canes trying to steal momentum away from Florida, a program he’s visited more than any other program.

So how did his Canes visit go?

“This weekend went well, was definitely a chance for me to get a little closer with the coaches, just experience the city more,” Mincey told CaneSport. “Seeing (coaches) face to face, you can’t beat that. A great place. Good coaches, good players. A good school.”

This was Mincey’s second visit to Coral Gables in the last two months. He already visited Florida June 9 and Florida State June 16.

The Canes stand high in his picture off the visit.

“They made me feel like a priority,” Mincey said. “I’m a Florida kid, visited the other Big 3 so I had to come down to Miami, experience the city and the football program.”

Mincey is the nation’s No. 145 ranked overall prospect and is the No. 23 ranked player in the State of Florida.

The Gators lead in the Recruiting Prediction Machine with an 87.6 percent probability; FSU is second at 4.4 percent; Miami third at 3.7 percent.

Mincey says Alabama and Tennessee joins UM, FSU and UF as a top 5.

“Talking with coach (Mario) Cristobal – I have to enjoy playing,” Mincey said. “I don’t want to be somewhere that it feels like work. I don’t want to be miserable, because then I won’t be able to thrive.

“Really those (five) are the ones.”

This visit gave him plenty to think over. And there’s one other factor that will play into this.

“Definitely the business opportunities (here), the connections you make,” Mincey said. “NIL, all the businesses around here support the players, so it opens up a lot more doors.”

CaneSport’s take

Mincey is a huge priority for Miami in this class, and the Canes gave him plenty to think over. So we’ll have to see when he sets a timeline for announcing a decision. This is a bigtime battle and look for UM coaches to keep up the regular contact and keep building the relationship off a great visit.
